Interesting link hotroder, I had thought of 312 but didn't think they would stand the high temps. But reading that maybe they will. Veylum, I've got some Murex E312 Nicrex. They're 4mm, think they're probably to big, but could send you a couple if you think they might do the job.

I wasn't sure (hence the guess) but several similar links came up when googling for high temperature properties. Just had another play with google 'er312 sigma phase' and found several like this. Am now thinking 309 would be a better choice because of lower ferrite and am wondering about 310 (fully austenitic, listed for dissimilar applications), perhaps more risky with regards weldability on unknown base alloy?

I've used 29/9 'repair' electrodes (MMA) on cast steel with some success. W/A

Exceellent information again, thankyou. I have been talking it over with a couple of welders at work aswell and we have looked at some 309 rods but after going over the web and looking at various sites 312 rods seem like a good choice aswell. I'm not in to much of a rush at the minute but have taken a few pictures this week at work of the damaged areas so when I get time this or the next evening I will post them for people to view.
