cebora dilema

Ok

I have a cebora welding star revolution combi 130

it has served well except the last couple of months

the torch has been playing funny buggers, after cleaning it will work for a while

but the problem is it is obsolete and can no longer get the replacement swan for it, as you can see in the photos there are two wires at the back plate, the new models have one and wont work

the question is, does anyone know of a one that will fit, or is there an adapt and overcome that i need to look at

as its a fix or bin

would rather fix as its a cracker when it works

any tips/help appreciated

If you drill two holes at 90 deg from original ones (where X's are) then you can use some brass (or better) dome headed screws to replace the worn contact pads. This will give you a nice new pair of contacts. Not sure if the chamber below has to be gas tight (can see o'ring) then use some screws with enough unthreaded section to fit in a good size hole to for a seal. Then use nuts and shake proof washer to secure the electrical cables.
ps trimmed off your thumb from pic..... that looks painful !

had that idea in my head but the contact plate below isnt the best either, have cleaned that off a few times and not sure if that would last much longer

shame there wasnt another make or model with same gun, not even sure if it could be converted to euro fit

thumb was more painful when i had to pull the raggy end off, power driver slipped and i won a pozi in me thumb lol

By moving the contacts around you will be on a fresh part of the valve/brass disc. Ref replacement torch if you only wanted to use the machine gas OR gasless (not switchable) then I would have thought there should be quite a few torches that would work/fit. The main difference I can see between your torch and say a clarke, sip or most other valve in handle type is the fly lead that yours has to swap the polarity. If you did not need that then there should be plenty (most?) around that have two wires for the trigger switch. BUT the cost of the valve in handle type seams very expensive. Worth a look on ebay maybe.
It should be possible to fit a euro type but you would need the kit as you don't have a powered gas valve. Look at the SIP mods that have been done and yours should be much the same. Note the kits seam to have come down in price from what I last seen and some include the new torch which you would have to get anyway.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit Darren, but what settings are you Cebora guys using? I have the 180, use power 1, wire 6 (middle), gas on 10l, and still struggle not to blow through on car bodywork. I am using the thin metal technique (lots of individual welds) but feel I should be getting better results by now. Any tips from all you Cebora guys? Welding outside on the drive btw.

never really use gasless as most of its use is for thin materials, so not really bothered about that, just gas would be good enough, the last time i used gasless was to weld angle iron outside for a trailer, but have a stick welder if needed to again

i find that setting 1 is ok with quicker wire speed, but doing it outside with gas doesnt help if it keeps getting blown away, but i tend to just play with wire speed with most things and leave on setting one

I'd convert it to a euro torch. Looks to be easy enough. the trigger wires are there, so that would be straigh forward. the power lead would attach to the connector and then be routed out the front of the box to the terminals. It even looks like it has an internal gas solenoid too. The Wiring diagram is here

so you will need to mount the euro connector on the box. the neck will need to just reah the rollers, not too bigger gap.
connect the gas tube to the connector.
connect he trigger wires to the connector.
connect the power cable to the connector and route it to the terminals.

that should keep you occupied for an afternoon

I would say that the big brass block is not only the trigger switch but also the gas valve. Bit not to clear in pic.

In the Pocket turbo the brass block is the trigger and the gas valve, but according to the wiring diagram for the Revolution Combi there is a gas valve insode the machine. This is probably to do with being a gas/no gas welder and it looks like the gas can be turned on/off

i noticed they were the same except for the two fly leads, would have prefered to allow for gas and no gas if i can find something to do it, but gas will do if not
