Thanks RR, I think you have a point. The wheel does slip. I have some spare tips, so will try new one when I get some more gas, but what about if it is the swan neck, how is that fixed?

Inside the Swan neck behind the tip is a wound spring style liner, fish it out,clean it and check for wear.

Thanks for the information, but don't trust myself to do the Eurotorch conversion. So I have ordered a new liner for the torch, so will have new liners throughout. Also stripped the torch down and cleaned up the contacts - they were not shiny at all and there was a little pitting. Have bought some new wire too, just to be on the safe side. Rent free gas bottle delivered today within 5 hours of ordering, excellent service from Senator, so hoping to crack on over the weekend. Assuming it all works correctly. Thanks for all the help and feedback. I'll revert with a progress report.

Replace the liner first. Use either steel, or better yet Teflon. Clean the bearing that pushes the wire down against the motor. It just pulls out of the arm. Clean and grease it with white grease. If it feels lumpy, go to a skate board shop with the number stamped on the bearing. It's a skate bearing they used. Use clean welding wire. You shouldn't have to set the tension very tight for it to work right. Don't overtighten. There should be a little hold back tension on the wire reel, but not a lot. You can take the motor apart too and clean and lube it.
Spray some WD40 into the pot that controls the wire speed and turn it back and forth a few times.
If you do these things, your machine will push wire.
