I ended up doing around 5 coats, giving it a bit less than 10 minutes per coat. I did a mist coat and then coats which were as heavy as I dared go. This is for a rally car so I'll just use compound on it and be done with it in the engine bay, the paint is already fine for a rally-car straight from the gun though to be honest.
I'll do the rest of the bay tomorrow all the help has been brilliant.
One final question, there is a section between the rollcage and body that can't easily be got to but is visible how do I shoot a coat of paint into an awkward place like this where I have to try to apply a coat of paint horizontally whilst aiming the gun vertically downwards.
