maybe it.s slightly dangerous!....gonna mount it to a petrol saw(definately dangerous!) im going to place it on the wheel barrow so the logs are collected....hmmmm!
Each to their own, but your device looks... umm.... well, it works fine, but when its not fine, what happens then? I mean, where's the stop button when it all goes wrong?
Looks as if it does what you want though, its just i wouldnt like it. Imagine slipping as you walk up to it - you could probably actually manage to decapitate yourself!
having used it for a bit..it has some merit, the off switch is at the end of the lead(ie the plug!!) i dont think i,d like to fall on a table saw mutch either..!
i remember it being more fearful though. but then i have just watched your device again, so maybe im desensatised?
table saws are generally a bit bigger (so harder to fall onto), your not rough cutting in the same way (so paying more attention) and your not outside in the mud with them, fatigued, as youve been doing the same job over and over in the rain...
dont get me wrong, its a good idea. and im all up for good ideas, but its a bit dangerous and like said what if you was to slip.
or someone distracts you as your just going to cut a log. you could end up with cutting more then the log.
having a bench like julianf has posted up would be much better and safer
you could make an attachment for the chainsaw and counter balance the chainsaw with a cable and weight.
yes i know!..its not the finished article, for longish pieces you are quite far from the chain,i,ll maybe do some sort of safety guard,...but it can cut...!
well I have to say id rather spend a tiny bit more time and hold the saw to cut the wood rather then hold my arm where my hand used to be to stop the bleeding.
we all like to save time and make life a little easier but some things given the tiny difference they actually make are simply not worth the risk we cant grow more limbs or even get severed limbs re attached and 100% working as though it had never happened.
Is it safe to use the top of the chain to cut the log? I reckon the chain will be in tension between the log and the end of the guide, which could cause the guide to bend and the chain to fly off.
hi rtp, yes brake stops chain as soon as switch is released(thank god!)..i am no expert but apparently you can use top side of the bar to cut..and it,s commonly used that way...
Yes, but will the chain stop immediately or slow down to a halt? I reckon there is either a mechanical or dynamic brake which physically stops the chain when the trigger is released. Cutting the power at the plug won't necessarily apply the brake.
Wheel barrows are unstable themselves and have a tendency to fall over, and have only 3 points of contact with the ground
also the height of the wheel barrow is in my mind a bit low so you will be bending over it, not good
the higher you make it the more unstable it becomes , you need 4 points of contact to have stablity, I carry logs in a wheel barrow and when loading if I drop one log in the wrong place it falls over, which is a pain but if there was a live chainsaw on it!!
I did meet a guy once who had cut his arm off with a chain saw, it had been reattached
but was very white and dead looking
