No.Late eighties , early nineties was my time.Never had any hassle from anyone, infact I went to a few bike rallies on my scooter with a mate who was a scooterist and also a biker.Owned a couple of rd350's in my time which I rode to a couple of scooter do's.

By the late 80,s the neanderthal had progressed to become civilized on our roads by laws..including not letting 17 year olds ride 100mph 250,s

Cringe...my old Mk2 Escort Mexico with flared arches, jacked up rally suspension, 4 big cibies and a loud Janspeed full system, the bucket seats and 5 point harness.

No wonder I spent most of my time riding motorbikes, though my Honda CB550 with Alpha 4 into 1 and no baffles was as antisocial but not as pleasing an exhaust note as my Triumph's.

I hate diesels belching smoke. The Americans and their "rolling coal" nonsense is infuriating.

My diesel has 400bhp and no smoke. Just how i like it; quiet, comfortable, mildly terrifying.

A few years back when I had my 3.6TDV8 Range Rover I pulled up to a set of lights on the A31 just outside Farnham. In the next lane was a chav mobile with massive fart can on the back sat there revving it's engine.

Well I couldn't resist and revved the V8. He glanced over and nodded. Lights went green, he got the jump on me, didn't look best pleased when 2 and three quarter tonne of Range Rover cruised past him. Should have seen the look on his face when the trailer with another Land Rover went past him as well.

I saw one the other day, think it was a Golf, with purple anodised rims too wide for the tyres, huge negative camber and lowered of course, it looked like the whole car was squatting down for a poo.

I was really surprised when a woman got out of it, I thought only boys ruined their cars like that.

It was probably her son's car....

Didn't someone squeeze an LC lump in their Lambretta, pretty sure it was in 1 of the bike mags back in the early 90's

Had done similar , I had a rather rapid Alfa velocce, in our nearest town there is a dual lane road intersected with mill tolls traffic lights .

Young pleb in a Citroen Paxo giving it the large with exhaust . Gave him a glance and the same nod , he was up for it ….. on the green light I gave it a little squirt , knowing he would go for it ..

I immediately let off the throttle , he gave his all the beans , launching off …

What he didn’t see was the two cop cars sat on the the other side coming our way …..lights and sirens followed as it’s only a 30 zone …

Needless to say ,,, I have him a wave as he got pulled in …all down to the power of observation .

Yes.Quite a few rd350ypvs conversions have been done.Heres a gt500 powered one.Also a pic of one of the 350 powered lambrettas.
I've been away from the scene for a while and the quality of tuning has advanced hugely, you can now buy an off the shelf twin cylinder 365cc engine.

Round these here parts of North East London, the clear winner here (by a cuuntry mile) are those proponents of the 'pop and bang' remap!

These 'bad boys' spend out good money ('cos they live with their Mum), to waste fuel and disturb the peace with their 'machine gun' sounds, driving around to make noise, in their GTA illusion of reality.

I do remember a Mr Webber, who now lives in Australia, who in the late 70's, jacked up a Mk2 Lotus Cortina, with big back wheels and all.

An example from today - DTC set of 'long term SCR efficiency exceeded' no other fault codes, engine and SCR system test OK. NOx sensor values OK on test drive, DEF metering valve port very clean but DEF pressure and delivery volume test results within limits. Actual cause was one of the exhaust temperature sensors upstream of the catalytic converter reading low.

Example from a few years ago - petrol engine with 'conventional' ignition distributor, runs fine at tickover, accelerates OK, but misfires on deceleration, already had new points & condenser fitted - checked gap - OK, no track marks on dist. cap, vacuum advance working OK, ballast resistor on coil tests OK. Actual cause was fixed contact had fallen off old set of points and jammed up the centrifugal advance in the distributor, igniton had been re-timed at the same time as points & condenser replaced.

So yes, knowledge, understanding and an appreciation of actual values is needed to diagnose vehicle faults, whatever the age of the vehicle.

Loved my mark 4 golf gti had some real get up and go, I was never big on modifying, like a car to look stick and well cared for but be a bit of a rocket underneath.

Try to leave engines alone apart from very mild remaps occasionally there is plenty that will make you go faster without touching the engine.

There’s a lot of girls getting into it these day and I’m glad if they like cars and it’s their hobby why not.

See a lot of girls with the low rides and pop pop round the Cheddar aeria, they have put Gabions in all the car parks through the gorge to stop drifting
A girlfriend of friends grandson has a 380 hp. PUG diesel with all the bells and whistles drives to work and track days.
