Although you tried the welder after it was left out in a brief rain show, did you not take the cover off to ensure it was completely dry inside.

Of course not, I took the normal male approach and gave it a bit of shake to remove the last drops and that was it.

Guess what extracted me out of the brown sticky stuff today when I ran out 85/15 gas for my R Tech 250 mig welder?
My little cheap as chips Chinese 200amp stick welder.
So far this afternoon I have laid down quantity 17 of 2.5mm 6013 MMA electrodes with it.
This little machine never missed a beat and I had forgotten how eerily quite it is when running.
I am making some apexed flitch plates to repair my workshop roof from 75 X 5 MSF cut and welded @15° pitch.

Apologies guys, for some reason viewing of the photo has been compromised, so here's a copy.
My current temporary set up under the gazebo in the garden. I'm working here again because I have another steel hobby project on the go that will be too large to pass through my workshop door when its finished.
Not too shabby for my first MMA weld in 4 months or so. Super 6 brand 6013 electrodes, 2.5Ø @ 80amp (guesstimated)

Fed up with lugging my arc around I thought I'd have a go with one of these, not wanting to go with bang good or eBay I had a search on amazon and found this one:
Ordered it Monday night and it arrived this morning, only tried it out on a couple of bits of scrap so far. But it ran 6013's beautifully and 7018 surprisingly well, even got out some very old 6011 (covered in white powder) and it ran those as well. All 2.5mm rods but well pleased and amazed with it.
