I actually have a spare mig gun i bought exactly for cutting down, but, i took the torch apart and it didnt look disassemblable, lol what a word - easy to take apart and put back together.
Im havf thinking bout giving it abother go.
what about cutting the lead in half and shortening it that way? of is that not going to work....
I took it all apart, and, it doesnt look that bad. There is only a groove in the lower drive roller so i cant see misallignment being an issue.
The motor and mechanism body itself is of quite good quality. Thye nozzle part is less impressive, i guess it remains to be seen how it will fare.
on one of these pics you will see where the gas enters the nozzle. Apparently the nozzle gets very hot and melts off the plastic gas pipe pretty quickly when in use.
So im trying to think of a way to have the gas line be metal or some other heat resistant material.
I created a spacer so the unit will accept normal 0.5kg rolls of wire.
I reckon Im going to need to figure out tips, chances are I'll be going through a lot of them.
Ive taken apart (destroyed) one of my mig torches..... lol so I'm commited at this point. TBH it all sounds very interesting the more I read, am looking forward to getting it working.
Yep, plastic tube feeding my gas fitting. Haven't tried it yet my CV power source is still out of action and my CC power source (would probably do for spray transfer) doesn't have a contactor in it.
I would never buy anything from them having seen inside one of their 'professional quality' footpedals and having had one of their feeders apart... Shocking build quality.
well that mig spool gun sat there and did nowt for a few months. in between i did a lot of fiddling with my compressor and so when I looked at the torch lead i cut up to see could i shorten it, it seemed easy peasy.
so anyways its perfectly possible to shorten a standard mig torch.
think this was three meters
cut apart
connected back up in bodge central
its about 1.5 meters now. I have some 0.8 Alu wire, and a teflon liner, gonna get some gas and correct tips and have a go at it with my next paycheck.
Did you use the spool gun? I got one today www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331876222930
This has the other, gear style rollers like to the miller pic above. The wire grooves are offset, and different wire size without flipping rollers? assuming it works. If it doesn't, I can turn a new one on lathe. Needs adjustment for normal 1kg spools.
Have not used it yet, but much higher quality and design than the LTS 65 quid gun I destoyed (plastic gearbox.. bent).
never got round to using mine, mainly becuse i want it to weld thicker aluminium and was advise my 170 amp welder was not up to it.
I have to get me a 200 amp+ machine and then I'll go at it.
Kram yah that's the same as the one I got, post an update when you use it please, would love to hear your experience with it.
