Probably a little less penetration than ac but much easier to strike an arc with.

It should be a nice weld with little spatter from an inverter. My first welds with an inverter were not soo nice as all i had were 4mm rods and 120 amps!!

13 amp plugs dont like too much juice!!!

Not true clem! You can get more, or less pen, depending on whether you do electrode pos (more), or neg (less). Hope I got that right. Anyway, elec neg for thin work.

think thers an oerlikon that can burn a 4mm for about 50 sheets more. i promise you they are a beutiful machine, but id choose the oil cooled at the bottom

Yeah,The lorch is a lttle pricey,But I guess you get what you pay for,

What is the lifespan of them??,just wondered if anbody Knows??,Must be longer then the 3 years guarantee given, The use I would give it is mainly for hobby, making a few gates ,Bale spike etc

Another welder you should look out for is a pickhill
(from pickhill Nr Thirsk) . I use one of these at work
and its 40 years old. Its rated at max 220 amp,
lowest 20 amp. It will run at 140 amp all day, the
electrode holder can get so hot you can't hold it
even with leather gauntlets, I have had the bakelite
crack on one of them. It also has dual voltage ouput
50v and 80v which means it handles the specialist
rods such as wear facing rods much better.
Also features a battery killer on it .

Just like to say a big thankyou to everyone who helped me in choosing the right welder,

Especially weldequip, Matt1978, & Drains for helping me making my mind up in choosing the Lorch,

steve for supplying it and giving me a great deal and a first class service,

I am very pleased with it especially with its ability in maintaining a arc and of course its lightness .
