Good idea , used knurl to too make a knurl tools lol

Not my best knurls but still improving technique and will watch some videos later

I have watched this thread from the start ,thoroughly enjoyed it, great tool , hopefully I will be getting going on making a few bits on the lathe soon , reckon you made a cracking job of that .

Thanks, it was a good project I enjoyed it , What lathe are you working on I made these bits on a mini lathe but upgrading that shortly , well keeping the mini-mill that did a lot of it as well.

Thanks, it was a good project I enjoyed it , What lathe are you working on I made these bits on a mini lathe but upgrading that shortly , well keeping the mini-mill that did a lot of it as well.

This is the sort of thread I peruse at night when I am not tired. Been a bit busy lately .
But it does show how good @doubleboost is. How hard it actually is to carry out the work and document./video your progress with out making mistakes or taking 10 times as long.

Nice little lathes those look, a lot higher quality small lathes than the Chinese mini ones however that was bought when I knew nothing at all about lathes years ago unfortunately

One of my mates has a boxford and gets on well with it , you will enjoy it I'm sure.

Indeed hard enough taking photos of it nevermind a video and dialogue with tripods and cameras in the way. I do Appreciate all the effort that goes in when watching his videos

I find that happens too, although I have just fitted a needle roller thrust bearing under the tightening handle which should increase holding torque, I haven't knurled since.
If you want it to be longer without the risk of the toolpost moving just do it in stages with recesses in between the knurled rings. View attachment 316088

Did you cut the lines between the knurling before or after knurling?

Is a little Axminster mini mill

More of a drill press with a light x y table however works for me and being carefull with the cuts I take etc. I am looking out for a proper machine vice to go on it however most of them seem a bit big so just monitoring gumtree eBay etc.

put a spacer between the adjuster and half round pivot, will it hit the arm on smaller diameters?



Quick bit of knurling this after, bottom 6082 alloy top some bit of steel!
bottom - right hand coarse knurl with gap cut prior to knurling, knurl spreads into the gap. centre and left gap cut after knurling (the line is from moving the knurl along)
top - fine knurl on steel, centre gap prior to knurling, left after knurling

Very handy machine, Replaced my drill press and also very good for any little block things even milling out some plastic brackets just milling them out easy work compared to files.

I did the flats on the knurl adjuster with it just need to do lighter cuts on steel as its now mega powerful or Ridgid but gets the job done just slower. Can still fit big ish things on the table as its still a decent size however dont think it'll be boring any engines anytime soon

Yes it does bottom out a bit but don't really work anything that small so should be okay.

Nice knurls some very coarse ones there on the alloy

Yes I didn't bother trying the coarse on steel, it was only to show differences in before / after grooving. I personally prefer the finer one for handling and have only used the coarse when making bike footrests.
