Clark 6" Band Saw - need replacement motor

I have managed to burn out the motor.

Clarke want £200 for a replacement which seems very high

Can anyone suggesdt where to go for a replacement

Unless someone has one to check their motor you may more likely get an asnswer if you post a picture of the motor and spec plate. Measure the shaft length and diameter too incase it is an oddball, probably longer to accomodate the triple pulley.

3 phase motor and a VFD so you can use a standard motor and single pulley?

Are you willing to make modifications or are you after a direct replacement?

Get a quote for a rewind?

Go to MM, they sell clarks motors.
Cheaper than buying direct from Clarks.

They will do.
But if you look on line or in store', the catalogue is good as well.
You need:
Spindle size.
HP
Volts

They are not that good.

Bristol staff are good, in what the carry.
Pool manager knoews his stuff, as does Portsmouth.

Other than 500w there isn't any useful info on that plate. I think getting the shaft measurements would quickly tell you if there is a standard replacement that will work. You will also need to know the speed, 1400rpm or 2800rpm which would be IEC frame size 80 or 71, an internet search should bring up the dimensions to compare to your motor.

Google the machine.
Look for spares and you will find a data sheet for the machine.
Then away you go.

This probably doesn't help much but the Clarke part number for the motor (from my copy of the manual) is SD45085. A quick Google doesn't return much info though. It could well be a longer shaft for the triple pulley as mentioned already.

None of the MM motors come with a 16mm shaft

Definitely non standard, likely to support the pulley, standard IEC motors are 14mm x 30mm and 19mm x 40mm for frame sizes 71 and 80. Could be close in size to a B56 motor like this, https://www.beatson.co.uk/electric-motors/bfm-motors/ these have a 5/8" shaft which is just under 15.9mm although it is shorter.

You still need to know the speed though, you could measure the diameters of the pulleys and drive wheel then calculate the motor speed from the cutting speed that machine mart lists as 20/29/50 meters per minute.

I have a 3 phase resilient mount motor from the company linked above on my ML7 lathe running on a VFD. Not had a lot of use but it appears to be of a decent quality, made in India and was inexpensive from what I remember but it was about 4 years ago. I ordered over the phone and the service was very good.

Have you enquired as to how much an electric motor rewind is yet, suggest your sitting down with a good stiff drink in hand...................

try Clarke's for a stator only. If you look in your handbook there is often a parts breakdown page.

or failing that take it off take a couple of photo's with measurements and send it after aphone call to a prop motor shop......
they will def find u something....
had a similar prob with a French made wood machine.....new motor made in Italy was just over the ton....it's still running...

That's a common 6x4 bandsaw sold under many different names but the same saw underneath. I have one that's branded 'Nutool' & many years ago the original motor burnt out & I replaced it with a standard motor, bought from Machine Mart!

I think I had to drill new holes in the base plate to mount it & maybe bore out the pulley to suit the shaft size. If I remember I'll have a look later & get a photo of the motor plate.
