Clark 6" Band Saw - need replacement motor

That's a common 6x4 bandsaw sold under many different names but the same saw underneath. I have one that's branded 'Nutool' & many years ago the original motor burnt out & I replaced it with a standard motor, bought from Machine Mart!

I think I had to drill new holes in the base plate to mount it & maybe bore out the pulley to suit the shaft size. If I remember I'll have a look later & get a photo of the motor plate.

I remembered to get a look at my setup last night.

Not much help as it doesn't give the frame size of the motor! It has a 24mm shaft so I had to bore out the pulley to fit it. It's also a lot heavier than the original so the saw is a bit more top heavy.

I think I had to modify the base plate to suit the motor.

Those Ferm motors are no longer available but what I would suggest is to look at the link below, measure the relevant dimensions off your old motor & use the link to get your frame size. Once you have that it will make motor shopping easier. Your shaft size of 16mm isn't a standard size so you might have to bore your pulley to suit.

TBH there is a lot of scope on the saw to fit a different motor, the mounting plate is fairly flat & the belt guard pivots so fitting a larger motor is simple.

Can I suggest you try this guy for a motor. Very helpful chap, sells good quality stuff & even with carriage he will likely be cheaper than Machine Mart!

Update, have ordered a motor that's the same frame size and wattage. The shaft is smaller 14mm vs 16mm but I will make an adaptor

I replaced mine with a machine mart special.

I was waaaay cheaper than a rewind.

The only problem was the shift diameter - MM sell various size pulleys if you want to go that route but you're limited to one speed then.

I opted to shim the shift which has been doing fine for the past few years.

The one ordered is from MM, £107 compared to £200!.

I have some 16mm round bar and will drill it out 14mm, so that's the shim. Did you just make your own key or do somit else to lock the pulley onto the shaft?

That's what I was intending on doing but I had a sheet of 1mm stainless on hand so I wrapped a bit around the shaft and tapped the pulley on to it.

Everything has been golden since so I'm not in a big hurry do de-bodge it.

Just an update, new motor fitted and an independent supply from the consumer unit that's using a 6amp type C MCB
