I've nearly finished recommissioning the Renault 4 Rodeo and I've been having trouble with a fine red clay-like substance blocking up my fuel filter. Turns out it's maybe not a good idea to leave ethanol fuel sitting in a tank for 20 years.
I've done some limited reading and it sounds like if you bung some diluted hydrochloric acid in there and swill it about for a while it'll dissolve the rust. I've got some brick cleaner which is a hydrochloric acid at unspecified concentration.
For those who have a feel for de-rusting things using acid what sort of dilution would you try and how long would you leave it in there for?
