You were. But I took it literally. Like you were actually dismissing his correct assumption that Carbon in fossil fuels was once atmospheric by saying "It is a byproduct from living organisms so not as you may wish to believe just floating around in the air". The carbon burried underground was, by and large, once just floating around in the air.

Was the carbon stored in fossil fuels once " just floating around in the air"? It seems like to me, you're incorrectly asserting it wasn't when you state "It is a byproduct from living organisms so not as you may wish to believe just floating around in the air".

We both know the living plants which formed the base of the food chain that comprised the organic carbon molecules stored as fossil fuels, got their carbon from the atmosphere. So why are you asserting otherwise??

Have I got the wrong end of the stick and it's just a typo or something? Seems too simple a thing to be arguing about. Apologies if that's the case!

Before the advent of life, there was no biologically-driven long term carbon cycle, at least not in the way that I understand and use the term. CO2 levels in the atmosphere caused a higher surface temperature (as did methane, but with a much lower concentration). As life formed and used (trapped) the CO2, then the levels started to fall and the temperature moderated allowing higher life forms to become established which then caused a greater uptake and trapping of CO2. The long term carbon cycle operates over millions of years, not 200 years.

Personally I think global warming has to be better than global ice age....nothing destroys life on the planet like a big freeze....except maybe a runaway greenhouse!

I don't get too worked up about climate change (happy to do my bit)....the earth will be fine....humans on the other hand I'm not so sure. But the earth will be around for a few billion more years...thats ample time for the first evolution of intelligent life to occur!

I am not sure anybody is denying "global warming is happening". The big question is...?

What can we - should we be doing about it?

I think I am now getting the gravity of the problem in hand - I am trying as a family to use less energy/insulate/do our little bit for the greater good.

We are trying to make to do and mend - not consume so much. Reduce our consumption. Less air travel. Less of everything!


But to be honest - I feel like the next hurdles will be larger... I do think with population growth as it is.
The next issues will be - environmental migrants - people who have run out of land due to rising sea water - food/water/somewhere to live...


Trully if I could wave a "magic wand" at this I would - I am not sure what the answer is? Even if there is one...?

I have looked at the measurements of carbon for taxing people - to me it looks like a money making scheme like speeding tickets for doing 34mph is a 30mph zone.


Someone give me the answer.....?


It is difficult subject to engage - to absorb - but more of us - doing more - using more energy - consuming more of everything is not helping. (I struggled with it - it took me a long while to see it for what it is).

Funny I can watch charity adverts of poor starving African children with flies round their eyes - and I am OK with it. I think I have seen so many I am hardened to it (desensitized?).

It is the donkey charity TV ads that affect me - show me donkey with a whole pallet of bricks on it's back with bent wonkey legs - wounds where a makeshift harness has cut into its flesh and it touches my heartstrings! I don't like looking at these adverts at all...

The Human Race will not accept the necessary changes in lifestyle and energy consumption, and down turn in population size, that could drag us back from the brink of extinction. I really don't know why it winds me up so much. I've no children to worry about, am heading towards 70 so should just let the lemmings get on with it.
