I imaging long term reliability and accuracy will be terrible, looking at the videos and the bearing arrangements on the box.
Might be able to improve with some shielding and mods.
Its on a very light frame for something that can cut 12mm.

A cnc plasma is never going to be *that* accurate, so there wouldnt be any point in spending big money on linear kit.

With that in mind, £5k looks a lot of money for someone who (i assume) likes making stuff?

Not sure any of that is helping and I'm not really looking for a CNC plasma (remind me about this in a year's time, if insanity kicks in).

Just to even up the record, me and the wife contribute evenly to the household so I'm happy to have one who says things like "if you want a plasma cutter for xmas, I'll buy you it", so it could be worse

Good morning gents.
A cnc plasma cutter even a home built one can easily be as accurate as .1mm resolution, depending on the material thickness and consumables. If the machine is only to b used as a plasma than any further accuracy is not required. However if the machine is also to be multi function (used of routing and flat bed milling) then that changes. A plasma table needs good acceleration and speed on thin materials to get good details in the finished product. A router or flat bed mill requires rigidity, strength and torque to push the tool through the material being cut, speed then is not so important. If you are buying a complete machine you get what you get, if you are making one then you can build in whatever you like. If you like linear bearings then that is what you put in. In the whole project (home build ) the cost of linear rails and bearings is not that significant, complete machine builders build to a price so for them it is important.
Paying 5000 lb for a completed machine is not that great, try building one from scratch, (the materials, the time, the frustration, the software integration and calibration) and you will discover the sheer effort that comes into constructing one. To those that have built one it is no supprise, to those that are thinking about one (you have no idea what you are getting yourself into).
However the upside when you build one, there is a massive satisfaction in completing a project of this magnitude and dare I say complexity. If you have the time, tools and are good at making things there may be few things as rewarding

Just to put you in the picture, regards building your own table there is well over 5 grand in the controller and hypertherm 85 that's in the picture, been over a year now building the table it's time that's the problem with me, also that's the easy bit !!!!!. Leaning or better still trying to lean the software is one big headache !!!!!! Could do with someone to come around and say this how you should be doing it but hopefully it will be up and running soon regards Barry.

For the the 4' x 8' (4800) version you won't see much (any) change from 30k.
