I would love to see something like that in use running a job, just as long as i wasnt paying for the electric.Just a toy chuck then?
Ha I wouldn't even want to change the tooling let alone the bearings.Definitely wouldn't want to change the bearings on it
That's what my plan is Pete. Am off to Colchester lathes now with my headstock and measure equipment to just make sure it is the same. I did notice after studying both both headstocks there is a difference in the internal machining of the cases.I would swap the headstock complete. It's true that the original was fitted to the bed but wear in the bed, slides and tail stock ram is going to account for much more error than fitting an alien headstock. Most lathes are not scraped to the prismatic ways anyway just the flat ones, the bee ways have a clearance. If your headstock has the pivot pin and push-pull adjuster at the end of the bed like many Colchesters it will definitely only sit on the flat ways.

Ok. The headstocks are totally different. They bolt up different. The internal gears are bigger and a lot heavier than my set up. So it will not fit. The cases are machined heavier than mine.... But I have found the correct gear for mine. Just leaves the spindle bearings.....what a carry on..
Thanks mate. I've now got a very accurate idea of size. That's a big lathe27, to the nearest mug - I thought everyone knew that.......![]()

That's rubbish. I thought you were home and dry there for a minute. What you gonna do. That's an expensive head stock if you can't use 90% of it.Ok. The headstocks are totally different. Can you return your headstock and retrieve your 600 notes.Have sorted it guys. Had a result. I can still repair my headstock. I have brought the gears i need. They are new. Got a complete set of new spindle bearings. A couple of other collars. And brand new apron worm box. A *** result.
