Compressor fuse blowing

Get a hot air gun, warm up the pump for a few minutes and try again, plenty do this in a winter on 13 amp fuses

Crack the compression fitting open on the pipe from the pump to the tank, either end it won't matter. Then test to see if it runs with no load.

I then removed the belt and the motor runs perfect, as soon as the belt goes back on it trys to turn but then trips again.

What is tripping exactly?

can you manually turn over the pump? do as chris has said will very quickly identify the issue

It's simpler to run it for a few minutes with the tank empty & the drain tap open, you should be draining you compressor daily anyway!

havnt read all this but change the oil get some 10 weight oil in it, we are in compressor not starting season!!
oil needs changing usually every two years, it goes gluppy with the water in the air. mine needs doing coz it tripping at mo first thing in morning its that last 2-3 degs about freezing thats the issue.

Yep, you get mechanical & electrical seasons, Winter for me was always the unloading valves on the big piston compressors had solenoid valves on the cylinder head on secondary timer off the star delta timer. If the compressor was off overnight condensation would form between the plunger and the coil freezing, so compressor wound normally trip the main feed before the change to the delta.

I've had them not start with an empty tank and a bit of heat does the trick

Mine would or wouldn't start and blow the plug fuse. There seemed to be no pattern to it, winter or summer, cold or hot start, full or empty. I wired it into a 16A plug when I started to run out of fuses.

It never blew two in a row either.

I run all my compressors on 10w40 car engine oil, it cures the problem of fuses blowing in cold weather due to thick oil!

exactly, amazing the difference just too much drag even the load of the piston rising against the exhaust valve pressure is a load with thick oil thrown in the equation.

I've had a similar problem with my compressor keeps blowing 13a fuse cleaned the wiring on the pressure switch but still having the same problem it will kick in once pressure drops but will only do this once then blow the fuse at the start of the next restart.
Anyone know a possible cause.
