What is tripping exactly?I then removed the belt and the motor runs perfect, as soon as the belt goes back on it trys to turn but then trips again.

Yep, you get mechanical & electrical seasons, Winter for me was always the unloading valves on the big piston compressors had solenoid valves on the cylinder head on secondary timer off the star delta timer. If the compressor was off overnight condensation would form between the plunger and the coil freezing, so compressor wound normally trip the main feed before the change to the delta.havnt read all this but change the oil get some 10 weight oil in it, we are in compressor not starting season!!
I've had them not start with an empty tank and a bit of heat does the trickIt's simpler to run it for a few minutes with the tank empty & the drain tap open, you should be draining you compressor daily anyway!
