Compressor Issue

has a 13amp fuse in the plug, will try a new 15amp breaker as Normspanners suggests

The motor is rated as standard 13.2 amps mine is 11.5 and uses 15a OL and uses that OL if oil gets thick so take in consideration the 20% lower speed to do same job thats a current increase of 2.6 ish amps plus 13.2 =15.8 A
plus cold oil there is your problem

The initial surge isn't the problem as it runs for about 14secs.

Try starting it up with the outlet valve open, this will stop the pressure building up.

I have a SIP compressor which will only start from cold with an empty tank.

Had a thought overnight, are you trying to start/run this at the end of along extension? if so that volt drop as well as the freq diff will not be helping at all especially if your local area voltages are low to begin with.
just a though because I was testing compressors yesterday and was at the end of a looong ext and they where fine BUT the place has its own sub station, so guessing the voltage to be 240+ brought a couple home and they struggled to start at teatime at the end of my 2.5mm extension, I plugged in my extension booster and they where fine again.

Someone else mentioned this to me, my garage is attached to the house a little way from the main fuse box, I took the compressor and plugged it into the plug socket nearest the front door of the house still the same, have ordered a new 15amp breaker (thanks for the link again) so will see it that helps

the saga continues - fitted a new 15amp breaker a little while ago, compressor does exactly the same, runs for a bit then the breaker popped!

Have you got/ can get a loan of a clamp on meter, to check current draw and mains voltage ?
