compressor not knocking off

If you're talking paint spraying, as in automotive repairs, re-sprays etc, you might struggle with a 30 year old 2.2kW piston compressor.

Find out what the required Free Air Delivery is for the gun you intend to paint with. And at what pressure.

Normally paint guns need very low pressure (relatively) but a decent volume or flow.

If you're not using a dryer, filtration etc you might find your paint finishes to be a little sub-par!

I was thinking of painting bike frames, nothing as big as a car but i know that my father in law has used this compressor to spray car repairs and at least one whole car.

new switch fitted stopping and starting as it should. still losing about 10 psi an hour so I will have to try to track down the leak now

That's good news. A bit of soapy water brushed over the various fittings should show up any leaks.

If not there may be a leak through the non-return valve.
