compressor not working what is next to check

just looking at your photo. Are you running the compressor without the fan motor cooling shroud? if you are that might explain why it tripped on thermal overload... the fan blades are designed to push the flow over the cooling fins, without the shroud all the air goes straight up and down vertically away from the motor. if you understand what I mean..

it had fallen off as it is broken in a few places and yes that and thick oil didnt help with the over heating. I have re fitted it now hopefully it will stay put

duct tape, tywraps fix everything. aye that would explain it then, easy enough fix then. Happy days.

it sure does there are bits of it missing too unfortunately it was like that when I purchased it. I wonder if I can get spares

easy enough, try looking up under motor winding places, sort of thing they would have lying around from old dead motors, a 2.2kW is a fairly common motor frame size, they'll likely have a few old ones kicking about that might fit. Even if it's not exact, they're usually pretty basic to redrill and fix on to suit.
