For whats it worth I got my little petrol one which looks similar to yours because it wouldn't reach pressure, the fault was the head gasket gone between the cylinders there is not a lot of meat between the cylinders so would easily pop there if the pressure had been ramped up too high by the previous user. I repaired mine by making a head gasket with some klinkerite gasketing I had and its been ok since.I would get a separate pressure gauge on the receiver itself as previously mentioned first though.
Thanks for the replies everyone its been a massive help.
So i took the head off to find the the plate in there was covered in paint, so i cleaned this off.
But i was left with with a gasket that coudnt go back together so i had a word with my friend and he gave me some gasket paper and some paste and he said he used this on his compressor and it has worked with no problems. So iv made up a gasket with this, if it doesnt work them ill have to try and hunt down the correct thing, but it will got to make sure its going to be worth the work.
So after i put it back together i found it pressurized alot faster, well it reached 200psi in 6 minutes so i was happy with that, but then comes my new problem is that the pressure doesnt cut the motor...
I let it pump to 210psi and nothing, even when i adjusted the cut off...
Also at the moment the only way i have to control turning it on and off is with the mains plug switch. On top of the motor there is the electrical box and this has a button on it but it doesnt do anything, but if i unplug the wires from the rear of it nothing will work...
Hmmm maybe im trying to adjust the wrong thing then...
This is what im trying to adjust it with (red arrow points at it), it has a disk on to that twists with - <--- ---> + or something similar to that so just presumed it was for the pressure cut off adjuster...
Also this is what i presume is supposed to be the on/off button (blue arrow?)
Also on the rear it had a little arm that proturdes out slightly and when i lift this air is released when the pump is running but if the pumps off no air will come out...
Ok here are a couple of pictures of the thing i presume is a pressure adjuster cut off...
and heres what i presume is supposed to be the on off switch. Bother of witch im just guessing as it seems to make sense, but im happy to be proven wrong haha.
the bit with the disc is the pressure adjustment and on off switch but it looks like the cover is missing.
in your last picture the part on the motor that you thought was the on off switch is the overload cutout for the motor it will pop out if its overloaded you then just press it back in to reset
just looked at you other picture re the switch it looks like there is more then the cover missing the cable doesnt even connect to it.
if i were you i would go out and buy a new switch remove the old one and bin it
remove the old one then go to machine mart or somewhere similar take it with you and see what they, have you will notice a small pipe connected to the switch the new switch must have the option for the pipe. when the machine switches off the switch then unloads the pressure in the delivery pipe so the motor doesn't struggle to restart machine mart shows them for about 18 pounds i think
