Got a 4hp belt driven Clarke compressor one of these

I got it second hand motor wasn’t working out a brand new one on 3yrs later after being run most days it’s seems the pump is wanting to seize it’s started to use oil and is getting hot when running and the belt is slipping so it slows and then speeds up definitely not right at all

So I’m looking for a replacement budget around 2k potentially more for the right unit I have 3 phase ideally looking for a hydrovane or screw compressor for reduced noise.

Anyone had any experience of something like this?

Or I’ve seen sgs have several different models they class as silent such as this unit. I guess a belt driven piston compressor in a special cabinet.

I’m happy to keep the existing tank and just take motor and pump off and mount another unit ontop of my existing tank.

Anyone got any other options been keeping an eye on eBay etc but all seem fairly old and unknown so new seems the best route!

Essentially all cheap screws use the same Pumps, these are also pretty simple and reliable especially if using pressure switch and a timer,.
but they must have proper maintenance a separators replacing as required.


That first one is a copy of hpc separator, an Ingersole ml MPV with an atlas style inlet valve

I also found that I came to like SIP screws solely based on parts are easy to obtain as a consumer and compressor firms take the p

Hadn’t really thought of this I’ll take a look into cost etc thanks for the idea.

I was looking at it as an opportunity to upgrade similar size motor but it seems the screw compressors are a bit more efficient and deliver more cfm per kw.

I know what you mean about taking the mickey with pricing I did have the option on a really nice abac screw compressor 7.5kw I think only issue is the air end is really noisy spoken to a few companies and got quotes in excess of £1800+vat for a refurb so i can’t see its viable or worth it.

Abac use the same pump as everyone else, we serviced alot of of machines at 2000hrs or annually new oil filter, separator and oil it's really important as the oil does an awful lot of work.

Let's says the firm I was with sold a screw with an oil seal gone then moaned at the customer. I was back weekly replacing parts be nice if this was a one of
, but they also felt what they were working on was super unique,i took the opinion that they are failed mechanics.

There are many offers of used screw compressors in different conditions, sometimes with defects. The last option I looked at had an unsuccessful oil air cooler repair with an epoxy patch. And that was the only problem. However, a more interesting option turned up, requiring only an oil and filter change.

I was looking for and bought in Belgium, a used Boge 7C screw compressor + a galvanized receiver of 270 liters + a freon water separator, an electric motor of 5.5 kW + 800 liters per minute + 13 bar.
Should receive on Friday. Pathetic 11,000 hours . I believe that the residual resource will be enough for me for the next 10 years.

I reckon a clarke industrial is going to be hard to beat...could maybe look at building a sound proof box around it? I was surprised how much (little) noise they produce....I upgraded from direct drive which was really "LOUD". I think I measured my Clarke at 78 Db....reckon a sound curtain would really cut that down.

@RWD3M ....thats a beast. I've got the xet19 and it's a beast compared to my old direct drive compressor but yours is on a different level. Unbelievably they're now £30 cheaper than when I bought mine 4 years ago (get 'em while they're cheap I guess).

@RWD3M ....thats a beast. I've got the xet19 and it's a beast compared to my old direct drive compressor but yours is on a different level. Unbelievably they're now £30 cheaper than when I bought mine 4 years ago (get 'em while they're cheap I guess).

I needed something that would deliver enough air for a breathing mask while spraying so that sort of ruled out the regular 3 or 4hp versions and, I only had access to single phase. When I bought mine about 15 years ago it was about £1100 iirc. Still one of the best tools I've ever bought.

Actually, I've just spotted, mine is the 2 x 3hp, not 2 x 4hp. My bad.

If I'm not mistaken, the manual recommends changing the oil once every 3.000 hours.

PS - Oil change Change: – After 9,000 operating hours, however, at the latest after two years. – With other types the appropriate oil change intervals must be complied with.
