Compressor tank fittings

I recently had my old compressor moved into my garage. Im tight on space and the compressor is placed under a table near a corner wall.
The tank outlet is close to the wall, too close for me to have a ball valve and pipe quick release fitted without it hitting the wall.

Do you think fitting a malleable iron 90 degree elbow would work, straight into the reciever tank, then a ball valve and hose quick connect?

How do you get the iron tube parts to line up with the position you want?

Yes would be no bother at all so long as you retain the pressure relief valve.

Answering what I think you are asking, typically I will screw them together with no PTFE from that I just have a feel for how much tape I need to get the position I want and it to not leak.

Alternatively loctite 55 you can back the thread of a touch and they remain air tight.

Stilsons are graded in oclocks. eg; if small ones get you to 12 oclock, next size up will get you to 3 oclock, next up 6 oclock and then 9 oclock.

But to answer your question a little more seriously - with enough tape, or sealant, on the taper fitting, stop turning when its tight-ish and pointing in the right direction - if its still loose, keep going - with, as been hinted at, a bit more leverage if needed.

The tool of compressor fixers I found out, found loads of bolt heads turned round with these.

Used these in my garage, all secondhand from a local scrapyard. I just cut and welded the pipes to fit my set up, you obviously loose the galvanised finish so they where painted after it was finished.

My comment earlier about turning the whole compressor 180 degrees - no room to simply spin the whole thing around so that outlet is the other end and can use fittings that are way less restrictive?

Or swap the bung/bush in each end to the opposite ends?

It shouldn’t be. I have to remove mine when it’s inspected and never had a problem with air leaks afterwards. The one on mine has an o ring behind the flange

Last firm we took them out regularly for insurance inspection.

Only one chap has issues, but that was generally.

Would a 90 degree elbow at 3/4 put much of a restriction in?

Im not running much cfm, maybe 14cfm since its 18cfm on the brochure.

I have a 3/4” one in mine which is good for approx 24 cfm maybe even higher. If space is tight something like this may be suitable

Its just a threaded joint - use appropriate sealant.

Thats the Inspection Plates/Bung's rather than the air outlets

If its a threaded plug . . . it can be taken out, cleaned, and replaced using suitable sealant.

Most compressor shops should carry the gaskets, but they can still refuse to play.

Great info thanks @8ob . Now I know what the numbers mean.
it’s like the numbers on spanner’s e,g 9/16 means it will round of nine of every sixteen nuts.
