I am going to be building a shed soon and I am trying to work out its much cheaper doing it myself. I am retired so I can lay it in small bays BUT all the talk on here seems to be get ready mix.........
My shed will be 16 foot x 10 foot I hope..maybe 11 if I can pinch a bit more and have a door in the extra bit past 8 foot as its going to sit on the back of the garage. I have worked out I could have a door parallel with the back of the garage if I chose doing it that way. BUT I am even thinking of building the walls before I lay the floor as its half concrete (all be it on a small slope) underneath the shed it is replacing.
I am trying to work out "cheapest" way of doing it and I have my own mixer and access to others at a good price if needed. Plus trade price on Materials like cement and aggregate etc.
Just trying to work out how much the raw materials I will need and how quick it will all go off when I have mixed it!
16' x 10' at 4" thick is about 4 tons of concrete. Even with a mixer that's a lot of hard shovelling (after you've bought the materials) and mess and levelling versus about £200 of readymix you can chute straight in and work on the levels right away.
If there's access I would always plump for the readymix even if it meant saving up for a while.
