Do my 50ltr at end of day before I shut garage door . I bought a 150ltr from someone on here a while ago first thing I done was drain it , two washing up bowls full of oil and water and rust , no wonder I could not get the dam thing working ..

Drain mine each day for a few seconds...unlike the old gits in the yard..

Here's a story for you on that note,

I was on my way out and spot the old petrol compressor and think, Humm I wonder how much water is in the old girl, let's give her a drain given she has never had one that I know of and she must be ten years old.. yep drain opened and she's ******* water all over, I am in a rush so sod it leave it draining.. Hour later I get back and the gits have stripped the pump to the crank...forgetting I had drained it I ask "what's with the big strip down.."

"Won't charge..." is the reply.

Ah... I bend over do up drain valve and say try it now....

Problem with that is that I don't always know when "after use" is! I leave it charged thinking I'll go back to it and end up getting distracted doing something else

Just out of interest, what did you do with that oil, water and rust?

chuck it on a bonfire or drain water off up the garden and the rest in a wheely bin

The cheapo water traps off eBay come with an auto drain valve that pops open when the pressure drops to a low psi. I'd have thought this type would be much simpler to plumb in than a fancy electric one...

Surely you are better draining whilst under pressure to help it out....opening at low psi it would possibly just 'dribble'

I'm not so sure about that I s#!t myself every time it blows off, It wants a train horn attaching to it, you would know you had turned it off then!

The electric type cost me £18 and lets it drain under pressure which in my opinion is the right way, £18 well spent in my opinion.

The ones I was talking about pop at a good few psi. I haven't checked but it takes more than a minute to drain off and would be more than adequate to push the water out. No good if your receiver doesn't leak down overnight but I thought it may be a simpler option for the hobbiest. Tbh though, I didn't realise the electric ones are so cheap.

Guys, not meaning to be a party pooper, but condensate from compressed air contains oil, and if collected from a receiver (non galvanised) probably rust contaminates.

This must be treated as waste oil and either taken to the local tip, or treated by an oil water separator. It's not good for watering the plants, making tea, chucking down the drain, dribbling onto the floor, or pouring down a foul drain (unless treated by an OWS).

There are 20,000 good reasons why the Environment Agency won't let you do this, and they all can be spent on much better things.

If anyone needs any compressed air advice, feel free to ask me.

A decent 'auto-drain' is a no-loss drain, made by the likes of Beko. These don't waste valuable compressed air when discharging condensate.
