Correct way to prep this for spraying (with pics)

I grinded as much of the rust off as I could today. also used the dremel for the edges and hard to reach areas which worked well. I want the sunroof back onto the car soon as possible, so i decided I'll use the acidic acid and electrolytic rust removel method next time.

Once that was done..I primed it with acid etch primer.. looking into getting hold of epoxy primer for next time.

"Chipper" the 2k primer I'm using uses the hardener catalyst as well. It's really really good stuff. It dries quick and goes really hard.

I will be painting it with primer tomorrow hopefully if it doesn't rain.

Just checkin', but you have got proper protection etc for spraying two-pack, right? Iso-cyanates and all that. 'Scuse me if you have like. I've seen it said that epoxies don't contain iso's, but the one I'm using does.

Sprayed the 2k primer today outside. I used a halogen heater to warm up the panel and paint a bit as it was cold outside. I should have waited and done this in the summer but oh well.

The mask i'm using at the moment is a half mask, similar to this one below. It's
ok, not very good when used in a confined area, but it works well outside. I think I read on this website, a full face mask should be worn?

Progress so far, will hopefully paint it black tomorrow and lacquer it too.

I wear a half-mask but goggles also, and gloves and fully covered up - paper suit with hood usually. It can get in via tear ducts apparently, and skin. Best is an air-fed mask but they need min 5.5cfm or so on their own it seems, and a clean air supply away from where yr painting (else it'll suck in overspray).

I sanded the primer down, then sprayed on the black, then lacquer after that. I think the finish came out ok, considering the weather and where i was spraying. There were a few pecs of dirty and a bit of extra lacque on the edge.

The next stage will be to sand it down.

Normally when I wet sand I use a firm carpenters block with 1500grit wrapped around it. I end up sanding in a circle motion. But I've seen a few videos of people wet sanding in one direction. What direction would be the correct way to wet sand? I would have thought sanding in a cross motion would get the paint flat... but may show the scratches through when it comes to buffing the panel??

As i've started I might aswell finish the build thread on the sunroof. After spraying the final coat I gave it a buff. The finish wasn't as good as i had hoped for. I couldn't get all the scratches out.

I've finished with it for now.
If I ever respray the whole car I'll redo this again, as there are still imperfections in the top coat due to dirt...Otherwise it will do for now.
