A well known fashion house has asked me to make a large dividing screen similar in style to these in corten for some big event or other.
I can see no need for it to be Corten as it's going to be living indoors I think that Corten is almost a fashion buzz word.
But the customer can ask for whatever they like and these can afford it
I have no problem making it, I have made several of these now.
Corten?
How long does it take to patinate? typical of this type of company they want it in three weeks or so,
Does the rustiness rub off?
How hard is it source? a well known south wales steel supplier told me it's too expensive to order just one sheet, there is a shortage of it, it has to come from Scotland at vast expense blah blah blah blah blah. Fine I only use them when I'm really stuck after years of nonsense like this.
Then another supplier has said yes it has to come a long way but quoted me £240 +vat and standard delivery. Price is no worry.
Welding it? I am planning on a mild steel box frame like on the screens above, Mig welded with standard Mild steel wire.
What is it like to cut, bend and weld? tougher/harder/stiffer than mild?
Any useful tips much appreciated. I'm talking to them again tomorrow to try and kick this ephemeral job into some kind of shape so I can give them a quote
