Recently got one of these very cheap and wondered what i could use this for as it's quite a small compressor.

1.5hp 10ltr tank 118psi max.

Would i be able to use an impact wrench or is it not up to the job?

Just had a look at one that was sold on ebay and on the spec plate it states 8 CFM.
That won't be actual air delivered at the working pressure, it will be displacement. So you can reckon on about about 4-5 cfm FAD. Look at the spec on your impact wrench for it's air consumption, more than likely it will be more than that, probably about 7-8 CFM for full torque. For intermittent work it will just about be ok as the receiver (tank) will support operation of the tool for a short time. So for banging the odd wheel on and off it will be ok. Heavier work, forget it !! You'll be forever waiting for the compressor to catch up. The other thing that will restrict the tools performance is the output regulator, they are never large enough on this type of compressor. That however can be sorted by replacing it with a larger type or bypassing it completely.
Basically it's a little hobby compressor for inflating tyres, a bit of fence spraying etc.

Thanks for the welcome and response.

Its just for the occasional tight bolt really and some light spraying.

I have a spray gun with it, tyre inflator and air tool.

Im new to this compressor talk so unsure exactly the job of the regulator. Will changing the regulator be a hard job?

Like I said it was very cheap and pretty good condition will I benefit a lot from changing it? If not I probably won't bother.

Regulator adjusts the output pressure. If you have a tool that needs 40PSI, you set the regulator lower.

Usually they are set to 90PSI as that is want most air tools want. Spray guns usually less.

The stock ones usually have 1/4" ID pipes and fittings. Really for something like an impact wrench, a separate tap right off the tank would be better.

I picked up an impact wrench off Craigs list real cheap.

The real cheap ones don't have much torque. Usually something like 230 ft/lbs. Usually theya re overrated. Look for one 280 ft/lbs and up for a good one.

Sorry im not very clued up on this but on mine i have a screw that i can adjust the pressure with. From what i make out are you implying i should remove all the current bit and replace with a different regulator?

What will this achieve on a small setup like this, would it hold the pressure better?

Post a picture of the compressor. Usually there is an access plug on the end of the tank that you can remove and install pipe fittings to add a direct port.

You can remove the existing regulator (the part with the adjustment screw) and replace it with abetter one. Adapting another port is easier.

Hi Ive had a look at that thread and still some-what confused.

I need to replace my existing regulator as it seems to leak from the fitting itself when it shouldn't.

What should I purchase exactly from where I remove the regulator and left with a hole into the tank.

If the fitting is leaking, then replace the fitting.

Otherwise, a filter/regulator combo is best like on Malcolm's Air systems Requirements pages:

(the right filter/regulator.)

Then you will need piping and fittings to adapt to tank. Hard to see in your picture what size outlet is on the tank and if there are connections to the compressor on the same port. If, so, then using another port is easier as you don't need to make up the different connections. If the port is 1/4" ID then you won't gain much using a bigger regulator.

Can you tell from them photos exactly what size i have?

so using a bigger regulator really won't make that much of a difference..

would i be better buying an additonal compressor and joining them together?

Should be a standard pipe thread.

Or just add a fitting.

Any idea what i can blank the original port off with as the parts that were on it were cracked and leaking air.

You will need a blanking plug of the appropriate thread size, sealed with ptfe tape or liquid thread sealer.

could i just use a bolt to blank it off as i now have seperated the bottom two gold parts so im now left with a hole and a thread which i could put a bolt in to seal with some gasket sealant around for precaution.

If you can find a bolt of the correct thread then that will be fine with gasket sealer.

That will do. I had one of those and it lasted about a year before it started leaking. Those Chinese ones are a bit hit and miss.

I replaced it with a Norgren one and no problems.
