Coupled compressors

Hi all ive read through the other posts on this and ive done it, Just wanted to check if ive done it right. Heres a picture:

As you can see ive had the coupling made up and had a non return valve fitted so the bigger comp isnt filling up the smaller one, is this okay?

Difficult to tell from the picture, but if the hose that connects the tanks goes straight into the tanks and not to the output of the regulators that's fine.

You don't really need the non-return valve if you're running the larger compressor at or less than the safe working pressure of the smaller tank.

The coupling hose is connected via the regulators, not the best technique, it's also small bore hose. It will work but the best performance won't be obtained.

I see it now.

If the pressure applied to the output of a regulator is greater than its set pressure it will dump air to atmosphere.

The best way would be to connect the hoses where the brass plugs are on the ends of the tanks, via ball valves.

If I remember correctly it was the right side connection that has the un regulated air supply from the receiver, use them if that is the case and regulate your line pressure off the filter reg you have fitted, the filter reg should be mounted upright in use of course.

Agreed best bet to attach to ball valves on the receiver's.

Hi , I have 2 50ltr compressors connected together in a similar way except,,On the output of the 2 compressors i have fitted a gate valves on both, Then into the output of the gate valve i refit the quick release air connector,The second one i have a air drain of t piece.This way you can drain off the air from both compressors when finished,So for some quick wind keep one air receiver shut off and if you want more wind open both valves and switch both on together,,,,Oh one final thing both compressors run at max output and the output hose goes into a machine mart oil/Air bottles/Regulator on the wall then i can set what pressure i want to use. I also have a spare 50ltr 2hp not very old for sale this one is an oil free type machine mart page 140 no 6 priced £299.......Mine £125 cash collection only.From Henley in Arden 07775684062.Warwickshire.

That makes sense, looks like there's a safety valve fitted to the RHS outlets.

Yes the unregulated side is on the right hand side so ill connect them both to that side and see what the outcome is, good thing is that they where both charging at different times. Thanks for the advice guys, this is all in aid of using a blaster which i broke the feed on anyway haha (Damn you powercraft), so going to get a new one soon.

I recently did this and wondered if there would be trouble trying to force air backwards through a regulator, but it works just fine

I want to use this mainly for sandblasting anyone think the setup will work okay with one of those 10gal pressurised pot blasters?

yull need more air than that for blasting
1 questin do ya need a non ret. valve on each compressor?

You only really need a non-return valve to protect one of the tanks if it's rated at a lower pressure than the other compressor is set to.

No. The pressures in both tanks will rise at the same rate (assuming air can move through the connecting pipe quickly enough). When the lower pressure switch turns off, the other compressor will continue to fill both tanks until it cuts out.

if the hoses are coupled at the tanks as sugested all that will happen is the pressure switch on one of the tanks will cut out slightly before the other . and that will stop both motors starting up at the same time

Update: Got my new 10 gallon sandblaster pot works brilliantly with the compressors linked, only problem is I seem to have a small pinhole turn up in the ball valve at the nozzle end.

Im assuming this is because the ball valve is cheap rubbish. Anyone had a similar problem?

Yes. Bin it and fix the nozzle straight into the rubber pipe. Those valves are only brass and wear out very quickly.

You can prolong its life slightly by reversing it every time you fill the pot and make sure it's always fully open or fully closed.

Blimey they must be rubbish to only last 10 mins, surley i will still want to regulate how much git i use? what about a stainless valve?
