You regulate the grit by adjusting the valve at the bottom of the pot. Grit only trickles through that and it lasts ages. The nozzle valve is only for turning the jet on and off.
Adjust the pressure fed to the pot to regulate the force of the jet. (You can also adjust the main valve at the top of the pot to do this).
A stainless valve won't last much longer.
