Coupling, with axial shaft movement

I need a coupling where one end is fixed on the motor shaft, and the other end of the coupling is fixed on the shaft and the shaft can move along the rotation axis by 5-10 mm. What type of couplings are these? I have never come across this type of clutch, I don’t know what it’s called and I can’t find it. I need work at 3.000 rpm, shaft diameter 26-30 mm.

does it need to withstand thrust loads too or just rotational .

The inner end of a cv shaft on a car does that and has way more than. 10mm movement

The drive shaft in shaft drive bikes have that kind of movment. With splines usually, some older car props shafts are like that at one end, reliant from memory

Layrub couplings are pretty robust and can reliably handle misalignment.

Tractor 6 spline pto bits are cheap and easy to come by, they allow a bit of axial movement. Coupler like the pic pinned to the motor shaft and a weld on end on the shaft.

Or even pto 2 or 3 lobe shaft affixed to the 2 shafts, axial movement as long as you want really.

what kind of duty cycle? running for a mew min an hour or 24/7?

is the movement a worse case, or constantly moving in and out?

simple prop shaft two uj's with a sliding joint , depends on whats trying to be achieved really ,,,

3000 RPM is quite high for a typical PTO shaft.

Do you really need the 5-10mm travel?

thinking about it...

I have a forklift with the same deal running a hydraulic pump from the crank

has been run at engine rpm for god knows how many hours

engine moves a bit (the front axle is built into the gearbox) and vibrates etc... pump is set solid against the frame

Crank driven hydraulic pumps are quite common (JCB 3CXs work this way, as well as plenty others), but those engines generally don't rev that high.
Most will never reach 3000RPM, as even petrol engines in these applications are de-rated and rev limited.

We really need more information about the actual application.

Wrote a post, already falling asleep. Details: electric motor 5 kW + actuator, the shaft of which is moved by >5 mm by a pneumatic drive. A complex structure where the shaft passes inside the pneumatic cylinder. Operating mode: turned on in the morning, turned off in the evening. I don't like the existing solution. If you use a spline connection + cardan - there will not be enough space, IMHO. The old coupling is made in the form of plastic cylinders placed in a circle in the depressions (grooves in the crown, in the form of a half-cylinder) and a reciprocal steel ring with grooves + end caps. Noisy device, polymer elements wear out over time. Compensates for slight shaft misalignment.

Sounds a bit like what we'd call a Fenner Coupling perhaps?
Some old gensets have Fenner Couplings, joining an engine output shaft, to a Twin-Bearing Alternator input shaft.
The flexible Fenner Coupling does a similar job to above - in that it allows a small amount of movement.
