Need to do some welding leads and battery cables.

I've seen the £30 eBay yellow jobbies but they only seem to do 70mm and I need to do 90mm2.

saw this for £70. Has anyone bought one of these. Looks to have good reviews.

I have the smaller yellow one and when I was doing the last Cat they had the bigger version as per your ebay link (theirs was yellow)
It worked very well and put perfect crimps even on the big battery cables (95mm² I think)

We use the yellow type and they’re really good.

As you can see however it is exactly the same as your link except colour, probably made in the same factory

I find you need to use a mandrel one size smaller to get a decent crimp with those

Yes you do and thus the 70mm² one would likely do the 95mm² anyway.

I crimp them dirty style with a chisel.
Did the job here every time.

Here is the crimp I did with my set (smaller style) on a 50mm² ultraflex cable.

A different type of lug, but it shows what to look for, no voids between the strands once crimped. I've been taught there should be enough force in the crimping tool to cold weld the crimp and the cable together for a proper crimp connection.

The dies are too narrow for the intended lugs, hopefully the photo of the finished crimped lug has been stretched, otherwise it just shows a 'squashed' lug rather than one that has been forced into the cable. When I was doing stuff like that a lot, I had a Cembre hydraulic one, just the dies cost more per pair than what that kit is being sold for.
If you've only a few to do, I'd suggest the hand indentation type, I've a BICC one but the one on Zoro looks reasonable enough

I'd love a Cembre or Klauke but for the 4 times I'd use it a year, £1000 is a bit silly.

Well yes, it would be - by 'a lot' I meant 24-30 240mm lugs a day, installing gensets. it did hold it's value well though, sold it four years ago for £10 less than I paid for it in '98

I bought a cheapo yellow one that does 120mm2 a few years back so they are available.

Failing that a man of your skills could make the two dies to suit.

I bought the 16ton yellow crimper back in 2016, gets used a few times a month and not had a problem with it.
