Cutting discs for 3mm mild steel

You've lost me. A tct hand held circular saw for cutting down full sheets if milf up to 3mm thick?

I saw 'Evo' and thought of their chop saw, we were talking steel and you mean MDF? Anyway, ignore me - this is my 2nd testes post today....

apparently the circ saw will cut mild steel going to pick one up to try out, if its rubbish ill take it back. But the metal chop saw is brillaint

Cutting disks are great tools and I get through a lot of them, especially on stainless, but not the answer to every job.

without a doubt best purchase has been my tct chopsaw (rage 2 i think) thats been used on site to cut steels when theyve been wrong, the tct saws are absolutely worth every penny and none of that black crud in your throat

if it works for paul!!


i use a circular saw daily being a carpenter so im pretty wary plus used to them, you only get kick back when it pinches assuming its properly supported cant see the issue

given they have no blade guard i'd say same chances off kickback, but more more chance of injury.
have seen some terrible cuts from an angle grinder kick back, often aimed at the thigh

Indeed. Make sure it's well supported so that its own weight can't 'nip' the disc while cutting.

The Evo saws are very good I have cut adown several 6mm sheets with the 50 quid one
I would say less chance of pinching as the material is thinner
They do Chuck hot chunks of metal everywhere and it's one of the few things I would use a full face shield with but definitely worth the money for the speed and convenience to break down sheets
And jigs can be made to cut box accurately if u don't want a second

I use 0.8 flexovite discs. Brilliant.

0.8mm Flexovit user too, Never had a "toothy" problem, the trick with all these thin cutting discs is to let them cut at their own speed, do not push hard to aid faster cutting, used properly the discs last very well,

I have a 210mm (?) 110V Evo circular saw which I bought for chopping unistrut on site fifteen years or so ago I would be quite happy to use it on sheet material it is a lot quicker and safer than a 9" grinder just a bit more work cleaning up all the splinters of steel.

I used my evolution chop saw to cut 50mm mild steel box sections (about 4mm walls)....was an awful business. It seemed to cut large chunks and fire them across the garage....mainly at me...and the noise it made was not a happy noise!

From then on I stuck to grinders and my trusty sheet metal cutter....it was a freebee so I'm happy to swing off the handle to cut thicker stuff...I've done 3mm bar with it but that was a struggle!

Got to agree, bloody awful racket.

They are great for muching through steel but not something you can use at 2 O clock in the morning.
Mind you a grinder is hardly quiet or smooth either.

I find you will destroy slitting discs if you try to cut too deep
I let the blade "just" cut through and they last a lot longer.
If you cut too deep you wear the sides (well really the top and bottom but you know what I mean) of the cutting disc and can wear them unevenly giving the toothed effect.
If you think of it like a saw blade you are taking a kerf out, if you don't allow time for the kerf to form you are going to jam the disk and wear it prematurely.
