Maybe I missed something, but what's stopping you putting it on a dolly and wheeling it out? Also don't the gas suppliers own these things? They did when I had one.
It still belongs to the gas company and will be on their assut register.
You need to contact them to "Demand " their equipment is on your property. If it isn't removed in a convenient time scale.
You will have it removed at a cost to them.
How ever, depending on the house deeds it may be a fixed asset and has to remain, pending planning permission.
A quick phone call, recorded, will help a lot.

My pal Stig got hold of an old heavy steel air receiver that failed its annual test inspection . It was a good 3 foot in diameter and about seven feet long . He made a fantastic laid on it's side wheeled towable whole piglet roaster /smoker out of it . The clamped inspection plate in the base gave him an excellent low down hot smoke inlet too . It must have weighed 3 cwt or more when empty .I've been on the lookout for a nice big gas bottle like that to build a smoker for the restaurant. I found a huge tank on a farm nearby but I think it may have been a slurry tank, and while I'm sure getting it dipped and blasted would clean it out sufficiently I'm still not sure I'd want to eat something I cooked in it!
Tell 'em they have a month to remove it from your property without any tort or damage or it will be disposed of as you see fit...Oddly enough an Avanti guy came round last week, to check my cylinder. I pointed out it is empty, uncertified and disconnected, and I was going to chop it up to make a fire pit or two..... and he tells me it is their property and they need to come take it away, with a huge crane. Fair enough, but whether it happens or not is anybody guess.

True, and to be fair I probably would eat from it, but if a farmer came by and said "Hey, that's an old slurry tank!" it probably wouldn't be good for business!!
@Screwdriver - what are the dimensions of it? I'm not sure it'll be big enough for what I'm after unfortunately, I've already built one out of two oil drums mounted onto a trailer (that wasn't a good idea - too top heavy). The next one I was hoping would be HUGE, a bit more like @DAPPH's mate's one. Hoping to make it a bit of a showpiece.

Will be a bit small for what I'm doing. I'd take it for a later project but I'm on a strict 'no more projects' diet at the moment. I'm one of those people who always has far too many on!!Will be circa 1200x600mm which is not HUGE by your definition I should think. I can double check but it won't get much bigger than that.
