I used a Danish Oil from screwfix on some wood I had stripped back recently. It came out pretty good I think.

Another thumbsup for sandblasting or wire wheeling to replicate the look the OP is after. Those planks have a lot of texture and (I think) are then stained/rubbed down to make that texture pop. A scaff plank is too flat. You could blowtorch it to get a similar effect. If you're tired of growing older, you could always experiment with the lichtenburg effect...

I've used the hard wax oil from Lidl a few times & I like the finish it leaves. I think it's a mixture of varnish, linseed oil & beeswax & it dries to a nice finish.

The trick to applying it is first of all have the oil & the wood warm, cold oil will not soak into cold wood! Apply the oil generously to the wood, let it sit for a few minutes then wipe off the excess. Just make sure you wipe the excess before the oil starts getting tacky! 2 coats is probably enough, I've found that very little of the 3rd coat will soak in.

I use it a lot on hammer handles, it protects them from grease staining whilst leaving the wood still grippy.

This is on topic I think and may be of interest. Was asked to refurbish some lovely old oak dining chairs, a tired looking set found on eBay.

Cleaned with wire wool and meths, three coats of Tung oil, two coats of beeswax, lots of waiting and rubbing down in between coats.

Came up lovely.

I walked in to Smith and Allen the other day for some Tractol paint. I was pretty stunned to see they had a new "display system" which comprised scaffolding and pseudo scaffolding boards scorched with a blow torch. Very designer chic, though I am not sure that is their market at all Someone has been given a project I feel.

Well I was just about to order some laminate before seeing juliens picture again,
Thought I'd give it a go, easy to pick them up again if it didn't work.

I like how it turned out tbh, have never really been a fan of laminate

That looks nice.

I did two coats of the floor wax first just because I had it and would mean less briwax, and it does bring out a nice colour to the wood when it's dried and seems to be really tough too.
I also used it to 'seal' the rust-oleum chalk paint stuff, god knows what I was thinking using that stuff, awful ...sticking to Dulux eggshell white for everything now.

I started off doing the briwax like the videos, with a cloth to wipe on and another to wipe off, after lots of hard work, I realised most of the wax was just on the cloth and not the wood, so I melted it and used a paint brush to get it right into everything, then buffed it after a few mins, so so much easier.
