if there decent english make ones and just a bit blunt clean em off with a wire brush and drop them in to a bucket with battery acid in leave them abouy 7 hours take them out and wash them and they will cut wellHad to sharpen the lawn mower blade today and discovered that pretty much every file I possess is finished.
Looking for some new ones. What’s a decent make these days?
Wanting about 12“ ones, with handles. Bastard and 2nd cut.
It’s my go to method. I always keep a worn down 120 grit flap disc for such use, allows for my lack of expertise to make a quick job of these sorts of tasksIt's a perfectly good way to do it. You can still apply finesse with those.

Very good point, cylinders very different kettle, and should be done on cylinder grinders, there was a bloke near Yarmouth that used to grind them proper for £20 painted 17" and £25 for "20 including bottom blade - cylinders are more like scissors and need better precision. Rotary will still chomp with a pretty poor bladeI assume it's a rotary lawn mower? If so, angle grinder and crack on, as everyone has said already. When you're done, hang it on a wire and grinder a bit more off the heavy end. Rinse and repeat until it's balanced and it will make a huge difference, better cut and way smoother.
Ignore all this if it's a cylinder!
Sandvik are ok.Who does make good files though? Am looking for a set. Not for sharpening lawnmower blades
