Been using this style of thing for a while now, can hook, stand and stick.
Can bounce a little too and cheap enough not to worry about it much either.

That's what I mostly use but there are situations where bits of the car get in the way & cast a shadow!

I use these Unilite. They’re smaller than they look but powerful. Magnetic stand that you can angle. One is usually enough but if I need even more light then I have a second. Being small they’re never in the way.

For the right angle torch non rechargeable the Nebo Fat Larry they sell at Screwfix or Toolstation. Tough little torch with good light output. Mine had done a few thousand miles stuck to the bash plate until I found it again.

I done the whole rounds for work lights for "mechanic-ing"

I have settled on a range of RING led rechargeable inspection lights, petzl led headtorch and AAA led penlight.

Been buying RING RIL6100 's of late - two at a time - last week I ran one over (John Doe) - the next day I sent one "up the road" - magentically connected to a customers car.

The op is anti head torch, the only lamp I can think of that can be put down with a proper fully adjustable lamp position are the snakes. I use the dewalt one where I have to, lasts for ages on a charge. Down side is its non magnetic, there may be magnetic snakes about.

The bases of older battery tools make good work lamps. I chopped up one of the snakes and fitted an led work lamp, its incredibly bright, lasts for hours and is reasonably adjustable.

Second one failed within a few days unless you pressed in just the right place - some dismantling and application of a hot soldering iron to the disconnected wires later it was working again - I contemplated disconnecting the wave sensor but wondered if I might entirely bug ger it up, so left it.

It sticks out loads of light, even on the low setting, is low profile so you don't keep knocking it, and I often forget I've got it wrapped around my forehead.

I suppose that's a bit better than the local black clad dog walker hanging onto a black dog on the end of black lead, down a tall hedge/tree surround one track lane in the dark . . . now I now he's likely to be there, I am on the lookout for the dogs eyes as it turns round - simply invisible until then or until you get close.

when it comes to working on cars and there's power. i throw... i think they're 4ft?... outdoor strip lights underneath. very long bit of flex (orange.. must of been recycled off a lawnmower or strimmers or something many moons ago) with a plug on just wraps around the light stores up in the rafters.

only time i'll use a torch is if there's no power point anywhere.

These are good, dock to charge.

I use the headband strip torches as well, plenty of light probably 2hs use out of a charge (got 2 at home and 2 at work).

Milwaulkee M12 tripod LED ligh has been a godsend as well working in lofts and outside on a night.
