Hi all, thought I'd do my bit and update this thread on my fun times so far.
I purchased an oil free "3HP" low-noise induction motor compressor as linked to above, it claims 8CFM, but as I now appreciate that is nowhere near what it will deliver as FAD.
That compressor in conjunction with my existing aldi compressor (conventional direct drive noisy type) were unable to keep up with the airfed mask. Despite all the reading I've now done on this subject, I was still really surprised just how badly they failed to keep up - the pair of them literally could not gain at all on the pressure after a couple of squirts of the gun. I tried using them separately, but again neither could keep the mask fed on their own.
Tonight I swapped that quiet compressor out with a POLLOR 3HP (bit of a gamble on the brand) that claims 14 odd CFM, same design as my existing aldi job. It happens to be 100L but I know that isn't a factor in this game.
The two of them handle the mask and a gun just lovely. If I hold the trigger down at full pressure on the gun, until I eventually get a warning whistle from the mask, as soon as I let go the whistle will stop. For normal painting this means I am not going to get the whistle.
I rigged up some 100mm ducting and a few Y connectors, along with an inline extractor fan, to take a fresh air feed directly to the four air intakes of the compressors, which are in the space above the garage. Thanks very much to the poor state of my garage roof this was a lot easier than it could have been :-D The output of each compressor then goes through a 22mm copper line (via check valves and a T junction) downstairs into a regulator/water trap before a 3 stage filter, and there's an additional carbon filter in the mask belt.
So; I'm very happy I'll be able to paint safely. Thanks to all for your input!
