Dehumidifiers ?

I have been using a greenhouse oil filled tube heater thingy-supposed to be about same consumption as a light bulb but dunno what size-not checked its consumption-and a fan set up in the corner to punt the air about.

Everything is dry, but to be honest I'm not sure I had a condensation problem in the first place and I aint switchin it off to find out!.

I have used a dehumidifier a couple of times in a building -I think it works a bit like aircon-you have to make sure the area is reasonably well sealed-otherwise you are trying to dehumidfy the world??-

wonder if a couple of desk fans and a vent would help move some air around??

but yeah its gona happen when metal items sit there and get very cold , then either you use some heat or its a warmish day those metal items wont change temp so fast as the air does so will condensate

What about a couple of computer fans as extractors in the upper area of the shed to keep air moving ?
Very little power requirement so even a solar panel and small battery could be sufficient.

I got a dehumidifier for my garage. If your shed is not well sealed and insulated you will just be wasting energy, you need to stop damp coming in. If it isn't well sealed then it will cost you a load to run as it will always be running flat out.

As to which one, have a look at Meaco I've got a DD8L. They are dessicant based so will not freeze up and provide a small amount of heat back into the environment. Basically ideal for a garage.

I'll do the insulation first before i do anything else. There is a small leak into the shed through the wall as next doors garden is slightly higher than ours, the water runs off and ends up against the wall outside, where it finds its way through and into the shed. the roof and walls shouldn't be too much of a problem but i don't know what i could do with the floor.

I've had an Ebac for over 10 years without any problems. It's stopped the large lumps of metal in the workshop from going rusty, and cardboard boxes from going saggy, which used to be a problem before getting the dehumidifier. I've sealed up the cracks and air vents so I don't end up dehumidifying the world, as one poster mentioned earlier ;-) It's not hermetically sealed by any stretch of the imagination though. There's been an energy meter on the supply to the Ebac, showing it takes on average 6-8kWh to extract a gallon of water which, in the recent wet spell could take a couple of days, but in the dry weather, has taken several weeks to fill the reservoir. The condensate is good for the steam iron, though I run mine through a coffee percolator filter first to get rid of diesel particulates and soot.

Thin insulation, is roof lined flat or pitched if possible board & insulate cheap ply & rock wool.
