I first came across Detroit Diesels when Steve at Dangar Marine in Australia removed his from his trawler for repair. It's now done 150 hours but has oil leaks so he is pulling it again and getting a Detroit specialist to pull it apart. His latest video is removing the engine for this to happen, but his next (not yet published) video is details of pulling it apart to fix the leaks:

Shame the TUV crapped on the idea and it got a baby v8. Unlike the series 1 in working on that’s got an 18 litre v8 from an antar tank transporter in it

I used to service a pair of these Detroits when I ran a 70ft Hatteras down in the Caribbean. Noisy things but no issues beyond a dubious trans oil pressure gauge.

I’ll chuck up a thread when I dig some pictures out. The engines on the dyno at the moment, she saw 770hp the other day which is a significant improvement over the 300 it originally had!

Finished the engine mounts off. Annoyingly their plasma cutter was not up to cutting them so I had to do it all with a 9” grinder. Not ideal with sinus infection
Laid both brackets onto some of the flat bar, making sure the edge of the bar was not what I was cutting (hopefully that makes sense) this makes for a nice straight edge once finished as can be seen. I learnt from my mistakes before trying to make a straight cut with a grinder.
Placed under to show not a bad job with the grinder

I little bit harder with this one but it came out okay.

Need to just finish cleaning it up and fit it. Was too hot to touch when we finished.
