As I said it check cracks anyway so Id be tempted to give it a try without.........the risk is underbead cracking which is difficult to detect unless its bad enough to spall off.......If it check cracks it probably hasnt cracked under bead

They told me that the biggest cause of the buckets failing was using them to smash rocks / concrete. Obvioulsy not designed for that but they still had to replace them under guarantee as it was part of the JCB contract

Are those cracks from an existing weld. If so did you put any of the hard facing on that weld.
If so my guess would be that those points are under stress in use and you may have diluted the existing joining welds with harder but more brittle weld metal. It's just a therory but a lot of hard facing is done in negative polarity or in the vertical down position to reduce dilution with the parent material. Is it possible this could be the case here that it's been diluted and changed the joint strength?

That's exactly what the operator was caught doing, apparently he didn't break up the concrete anywhere near enough with the pecker and tried his look with the bucket. He was seen lifting sheets of concrete and hammering the teeth into it trying to break it up!

No, the cracks start away from any of the welds. If you look at the middle image the crack starts about 3" above any welding and the bottom picture shows it cracking about an inch - inch and half above any welding. It's the sides of the bucket that have gone first but the crack has inevitably found the welds on the shanks

Just a tip, if the bucket isn't something that you designed and fabricated yourself, only repaired, don't put your name badge on it.
There's a good chance you would struggle to deflect liability from your business if something ever went wrong with it. Say an ear came off, bucket fell off and killed someone (Which has happened), it's got your name on it!

Those teeth do stick out a long way from where the bucket sides start. Plenty of leverage for that kind of damage. Would it be possible to extend the sides outwards some more?

Eye catching in the first photos. Didn't last long did it though?
Don't think I have ever hard faced anything with mig but have welded teeth on with it on request. It was an old bucket and the cheapest option
I have to say I like the name plate thing it worked for so many firms but I concur with thoughts of future legals

I picked it up yesterday and have so far just started to grind the splits down to a 'v' but other work came in today so I haven't touched it. I'll be back on it on monday
