Disposable plastic screen thingy's for blast cabinets...

I don't mind paying decent money for something quality but these are a bloody silly price for what the end user's getting out of it, anyone know another source for these or another method?

I use glass. Normal glass stays clear for a long time but toughened would be better. Cut your own and it costs next to nothing, pay someone else and it'd still be cheaper than that. Clear laminate on the outside if you're worried about it exploding into your face.

I would envisage a roll holder on the outside of the cabinet above the window, feed the film under the glass and back out at the bottom. Just pull it down as it becomes occluded.

Hmm, wonder if some decent double sided sticky tapy would work with that?

It might, but my cabinet has a side door and it's really awkward to get in and fix the film in place. If the top can lift to expose the underneath of the glass then it should be a doddle.

Yup mines the same, I normally take the screen out of it to change the plastic stuff anyway.

So what would actually be more suitable the 0.3mm or the 0.8mm stuff? I'm guessing the 0.3 because the thickness wouldent make any difference?

Not sure if I read it here, or a US forum, but have heard people recommend the rolls of cellophane stuff that florists use. I don't fancy it myself but as we're throwing ideas around.

I've not tried these particular products, but I've used book binding film and other thicker stuff and the thicker is stronger and does last longer. The difference is its resistance to tearing. I would guess the thinner stuff would be fine for bead blasting.

Personally I'd buy one of each and find out for myself, or better still, get someone else to spend their money and let me know. Hint.

IMHO florist's cellophane would probably be OK as a visor protector, but you're a bit close to the nozzle within a cabinet. The book covering I mentioned above is quite thin, but slightly foggy, so not the best.

I happened to have a pack of overhead projector transparencies, and use these as the were free, but I'm just using a friends home made oil drum cabinet!

The yanks use duralar, but the price here for the stuff is twice what it costs in the states.im out of screens now so i am going to get some glass cut and bond it to the inside of the cabinet glass.

i also refitted the cabinet screen, i recessed the frame so the bolts could sit flush inside and the use wing nuts to secure making it pretty quick to remove the screen

I bought a roll of acetate, cheapish and does the job well enough. the glass on mine can be removed from the top so I just tape a piece to the inside & replace.
