Diy tig pedal - Help Needed !

It's not particularly clear on the diagrams but I would guess as a variable resistor.

However the port on the back of the welder has 10 pins available and only 8 pins are marked on the wiring schematic, still not sure if there is something I am missing.

More likely to be acting as a potential divider; supplying a varying voltage to control output is far more common in these kind of circuits than varying current.

sorry to be dim but can I ask, is the wiring diagram definately known to work ? Has anyone ever made one from this plan ?

The wiring diagram has been confirmed via a contact from Matt but still trying to work out why the pot won't work when the welder is turned on.

Well finally it works !

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice, I checked and double checked all the wiring and that was OK and I thought that it had to be the potentiometer.

So I ordered a new 2W 100K potentiometer that arrived today, fitted it and everything works perfectly.

Just need to sort a few springs to control the pulley and wheel and we are in business !

Hi Premiershipman,

I want to modify a cheap footpedal to work with my Lorch T220 as well since the asking price for the original FR35 with 600 € is just overkill considering the cutting edge technology for the likes of pots and micro switches.

I already looked into a few electronics shops like rs components and others. It would help me if you could tell me which 100k 2 watt pot you have used in particular to get your pedal working. A link to the part or the make and model would be ideal.

Hi Nemi, the 100K linear potentiometer was a 2W potentiometer as I think the one I was using was not the right power rating. Just check out farnell uk for a 2W 100K potentiometer and you shouldn't go far wrong.

I think it was vishal spectral but can't be totally sure.

Hi! This is my first post in this forum. Sorry for my bad english :-)

I also wanted to have a pedal for my Lorch Handy Tig 200 DC but the prices are extremely high. becuase I only use it for hobby, I didn`t want to invest 500€ into a pedal.

So I Bought a 40 € pedal on ebay and took it apart.

It had 2 potis inside. One for the pedal itself (2.2k) and one one for adjusting max current (10k)

Because I can adjust my current on the front panel of my welder, I took out the 10k poti and placed it into the position of the 2k2 poti. The 2.2k goes into the trashcan.

Only negative points are, that the 10k poti has a very short shaft, but it still fits and should work fine.
The 2.2k is labeled with 2w. The 10k is not labeled, but since they both were conneted in a row, I am almost sure, that it can also handle 2w.

I resoldered the wires to match the shematic from the first page and hooked it up. Works great!

So far I spend 40€.

Today I called my local welding store and gave them the part numbers for the connetor, the housing and the pins from the shematic shown here. Lets hope the numbers are still correct and I can get the 14pole connector from lorch.

Since I got a hole on the back side of my pedal (where the adjustment poti was) I also had the idea to put a switch in there that connects pins 6-7-8 so that I can turn my Pedal on/off without unplugging it. (my machine does not have a button for it, so I would have to unconnect it everytime)


I did some research on the lorch pedal and it seems that all the lorch machine with the 14-pole connector on the back use the same pedal. So this little DIY-mod could save you guys a lot of money.

But fur sure the quality is not as good as the original lorch part. Eaven the black painting isn`t done nicely. Also there are some holes drilled into the housing for no reason. But hey, I dind`t really expect much of a 40€ pedal.

I don`t know if ebaylinks are allowed here. But if you go on ebay and search for pedals, you will find mine. Its a black pedal, with a small 7 pole connector on it and a adjustment poti on the back side. They are sold under diffent names and cost between 35-50€

There are some people on here who already made a DIY Foot-pedal for various Lorch machines.

The fittings, potentiometer, wiring etc is generic for all Lorch Tigs so the model you have isn't really a big issue.

Did you receive an offer for a FR 32 foot remote or only the FR 35? The 32 is substantially cheaper

You need a 14pin amphenol connector for the tig pedal - I got mine from Technical Arc in the UK. I can't remember the part number off hand I'm afraid.

Regarding the Amphenol plug,I could help.If you look at the female socket on your machine it should have some numbers on it,only small numbers.Let me know what they are and I will be able to give you the correct info for the plug you need.

I use a pedal with a connection diagram as in the diagram in the first post for his "lorch t300 control pro", but when connecting stops working "current control I1" on the device, it turns out that the pedal always works at full power 5-300A, is there a possibility to limit it that would be able to weld for example 5-40 or 5-100 e.t.c thanks for the answer.

on that machine it should be possible to limit max pedal amps with knob 34.
Do you have the two bridges installed in the plug? Does led 37 shows the pedal is connected to the machine?
I build several pedals for Lorch machines (V 24 mobil, T pro 250 ...) and it was allways possible to limit the amps.
