Would an el-cheapo helmet be solar powered?

Unbelievable. Too tight-fisted to buy the proper Rage blade for an extra 9 quid, that would have lasted well enough on steel.
I think the dumbo thought that 'carbide tips' meant the cheap blade was the same as the Rage one. What a donkey.

I have no choice as my sight hasn't gone long with age but got a bit shorter although not that much.
The normal cheater lenses are for those whose sight has got longer and they need them to focus close - I'm the opposite.
I tend to wear my normal sighted glasses under the hood, and since they're narrow I can simply peer over them.
However, I think I'll start wearing an old set of readers that are now suitable for items about a foot to 15" away, as peering over my normal specs takes me a bit too close to the action.
Reason I've avoided doing that is the faff of changing specs all the time.

Do glasses not steam up - under a welding lid?

I haven’t started welding yet so this isn’t supposed to sound like a daft question, I’m short sighted so wear contact lenses to see distance, but as I’ve got older I need reading glasses to read whilst wearing the contacts, does a cheater lens do the same job as reading glasses or is there extra magnification involved?

It works, and works very well. It was also in very good price, so am very happy.
I can now see where I want to start welding, and accurately start welding with the helmet.
It darkens instantly when the sparks happens, and goes back to normal vision when the sparks finishes.
Wish I had got it earlier. This helmet works, and I don't feel one needs to pay more than this.

No efforts at all. It popped up as a special deal for £17 a few days ago in email, and I thought it was good price, and if it works, it will do me. If it doesn't, return for refund.

That's the ADF epiphany. From a supplied 'gimp mask' fixed shade, it feels so good.
But can be much better.
Yeah, I was quite pleased with the price. I was prepared to pay 30+ for a decent auto darkening helmet. But £17 was a good deal for a brand new one including next day delivery.
I couldn't believe it actually worked too. I didn't have to take off the helmet all the way through from start to finish of the welding thanks to the auto darkening function.
It is the one of MUST accessories in welding for sure.
