Do I need a double bevel mitre saw?

Never managed to successfully use mine for say skirting. Repeatability for accurate stuff is rubbish. Sheds, stud walls, conduit and scaffold poles then happy days. If I want to do anything remotely accurate I have to set the swivel base / mitre up with one of these every time. Had the saw since new too. As for housing / trenching in timber then forget it. Too much bounce on the rails and no depth stop to speak of.

My mates big DeWalt though, a whole different beast and quality.

If you any diy then you need one, just not worth the effort of arsing around trying to match angles etc

Generally you get what you pay for, personally I'd go for a 254mm with a 12inch compound slide that you can lock off shorter for smaller cuts

I have a Bosch compound miter saw with single bevel and it's been fine for doing all the architave and skirting boards, the boards are 180mm tall ones.
The depth stop is a bit flimsy but other than that it's a good bit of kit.

I bought a Makita one when I started second fixing my house…..has paid for it self. Skirtings and architrave are a doddle with a double bevel saw, and a decent nail gun.

It is a big old dog and will require some substantial renovation. I will be able to address any problems with weak supports or slop in the mechanism when I rebuild it.

I mean, I might not do that on the grounds that mine's really only for sheds, stud walls, conduit and scaffold poles...

About the only exception to this is the Festool Kapex, but they are expensive

The festool is a joy to use...but comes at a price. They do a nice angle tool too which then aligns with their saw...quite useful.

Bevels are already complex enough...having to rotate things and then be cutting "out" of the good edge and risk tear out maybe?...I'd just get the double.

Orientation sometimes matters I find...for example coated boards where the finish matters.

Interestingly, you can't even make a compound cut on a scaff pole...
