Do they actually exist?

I have been using mid priced air sanders for decades but working on the Middlebridge inside has shown just how much dust is being created by them. I have connected the one I have now to a vacuum, but to be honest I can remove more dust by holding the nozzle near the work! I prefer to use Abranet discs and checking the Mirka website, cam up with this PROS 650CV which claims that the problem can be resolved. However the lowest price I can find is £160 and you also have to buy a hose for another £50.

If it really is going to do the job, I will find the money to invest but I don't want to find that I am in the same situation.

I have the older Mirka model, and connected up to a henry with a less than optimum setup and the dust collection is very good.
I wouldn't say totally dustless, but far better than anything else I've tried - I'm sure if you pony up for the proper mikra extractor and all the hoses the results will be better - but that's too rich for me.

Well the reviews all seem to be good. I'm told that Airbus use them too! Order placed and we shall see.

I've got a mirka 650, but the air powered one.
The special hose cost me more than the sander... : (

Dust free would be inaccurate, in the same way that domestic only kills 99.9% (etc) but it's pretty good.

(I think) It sucks from the gap between the rotating part and the handle also, so dust that would otherwise just get pushed about on the job gets pulled in the side also.

Ps get an interface pad as the hook section on the bottom makes the hose look cheap.

Mine was knackered when I got it, so eBay Velcro stuck on with upholstery adhesive. I don't use an interface pad so have to replace it periodically.

before spending the money ask Mirka where u can go to see one at work.....
ur wants are to small for a rep to call but u never know....

There is no such thing as a dustless sander

But, the Mirka machine with the Abranet discs and a good quality M class hoover is about the best you will get

You know that sometimes (I'm looking at your festool) the M and L class extractors are exactly the same with the exception that the M class has a function to alert you when the airflow drops below a certain level.

It doesn't need to be self cleaning to be M-class

L class is your household vac, M is what’s needed here. H is HEPA, the best performance but not required for this application

Ahh ok, now that I’ve been educated on what a Kirby is, don’t bother wasting any money on super dopper sanders and abranet if your vac isn’t of the same standard

A Kirby is a top of the line vacuum, which is why I use it. It converts to a hose vacuum by removing the cleaning head.

Ive never seen anything like that used for dust control on power tools

Looking again, the achilices heel of that will be the dust bag, it may provide good suction but i suspect most of the fine dust will go through the sock filter

Sock filters are usually not very good

@Parm will correct me, but speaking from a basic understanding - quality of machine and quality of filtration do not necessarily correlate.

With sanding dust you have a lot of very fine particles which will go straight through a standard bag, hence M class and HEPA filters which are designed to go down to these small particle sizes.

If you are just trying to get rid of the worst of the visible dust and you have appropriate PPE, then it will probably work.
If you are relying on it extracting the harmful dust from the air it expels which you or others will be breathing, then it won't.

Not sure a henry with a hepa bag is much better, but you really need something with a better filtration level than ole kirby if you are actually serious about dust.
