It is very versatile, becoming a proper 'cylinder' machine quite easily. It is a conversion rather than adaption and is very powerful, being designed before the green meanies got involved. I use it currently for cleanup and it should be perfect for the job.

Looking again, the achilices heel of that will be the dust bag, it may provide good suction but i suspect most of the fine dust will go through the sock filter

Except that the Kirby was designed for HEPA as far as I recall. That and its build quality were two of the selling points. Either way there is no money left in the kitty now so it will have to, at least in the short term.

Have used a mirka sander and matching vacuum quite extensively when taping plasterboard. While not 100% dust free it is a million times better than any other type of sander. Use it with abranet instead of the sheets with just the punched holes makes a big difference too.

Would 100% recommend.

Best I have seen was my Henry - I was astonished. With a quality cloth bag and the internal cloth filter it actually filtered out smoke from my Rayburn. Never seen anything else do that..
Our sweep has a really expensive industry rated vac but Henry seems better.

One thing to note when using sanders like the Mirka is that the extractor suction shouldn't be too high otherwise the sander bogs down on the workpiece.

Well so far I am impressed. The paint removal is far faster and the dust is non existent if the pad is flat to the work surface. When tilted to avoid edges (fibreglass remember) it does throw out some dust, but moving the pad over it will then suck it away. I don't get a cold air blast from the exhaust either, as it is fitted with a shield plus some sort of diffuser. Nothing special about the hose, it is probably ex works at a Dollar or two but it accepts the Kirby hose directly, which was nice.

No dust from the Kirby bag whatever, but it has shown a duff gasket on the bag connection to the housing. Just wait until I find my duct tape!

Well the Kirby has done a sterling job so far, but it has a leaking seal which will take me a while to source, plus some new bags! As a result, I have ordered something for the purpose:

I think if it was me personally, and I was buying a new machine for £100 to use with a sander, I'd have ponied up the extra few quid for a dedicated M class unit in all honesty and be done with it.

All in all, that one appeared to be the best all round value, without going silly. I just can't find any more money. It was a struggle to find the sander cost and this item appears to do the job, so we will see.

I use a festool vac for when I'm doing wood cutting/sanding....main reason I bought it was for the fine filtration...now I'm wondering whether I need an upgrade!

Could just get a longer hose and put the vac in another area.

I have the 100mm extraction duct to my chip extractor cut though the wall. It doesn't really matter about perfect filtration then.

(Of course it's no good if your workshop is heated)

I've got no experience of it, but I can't see why it wouldn't be fine - Screwfix are normally pretty good if you need to return it if it isn't suitable.

I offer that the vacuum is problematic in most poor dust collection cases , as the filters soon clog. Fitting a £28 double cyclone dust extractor and making your own collection bin and an air chest for the hose eis I suspect the way to go for max suction all day long . The dual cyclone has a transparent secondary cyclone dust bowl . Once you see dust in that bowl it's time to clean out the main dust box as well as the witness bowl . . Have a check of the vacuum cleaners filter too at the same time just to make sure everything is ticketyboo .

See my post about doing exactly this for our Men's shed . Now I have almost everything from China via Ali Pay, it should be in place this Friday afternoon .

Hoses for it and almost any other size are also available from the same source as are adaptor rings. cones etc. at a fraction of UK dealers prices who get them from the same place . Look for smooth internal bore hoses with reinforced outers .
Any hoses with internal ribs will tend to harbour dust and crud but for some people will be the best thing since sliced bread as they tend to be shorter when not stretched . We have gone for the smooth internal stuff because for doddery old lads at th Shed it's safer than having a hose pulling back on you most of the time you're holding the equipment /tool .
