Was reading about this today...seems quite interesting.

They're focusing on the range extender market (since ICE is going to be killed off)....but as a concept I do think it's interesting in it's own right...is it real?

The power to weight stats seem a bit crazy....sorry if theres a thread already on this (I had a quick look around but couldn't find anything)

Looks like a swash plate opposed piston two stroke (nothing new there) ... calling it one stroke is just linguistic nonsense. As with any two stroke it fires at the 'top' of each stroke of a piston. Redefining 'stroke' as a complete crankshaft rotation and then having multiple cycles on the swash plate is just silly marketing.

Theres a video where they have a coin balanced on the running engine I think.

It's really interesting because it seems there is really good symmetry to the way it runs...and there's no need for crank counter weights....well not a conventional crank.

The bores must take quite a beating though over time?

Yea as said above it ain't a 1-stroke they just pretending it is for marketing BS.
It's like calling a rotary engine a two stroke. Or a 4 pot, 4-stroke a 1-stroke because it fires every cycle...

The efficiency losses in those drive bearings on the swash plate are gonna be huge too.

Aside from the "1 stroke" definition...I found it quite an interesting idea. Must be quite a bit of stress on those bearings and the piston bores I'd imagine.

There would be no mistaking when the battery in your EV has run out and it's switched to the Commers range extender...

It seems like maybe they've taken existing ideas and improved on the engineering...the power to weight seems pretty amazing.

I just can't see how it is gonna lubricate itself...

And this is the problem with two strokes - lubrication...

Rotary engines also suffer with lubrication issues.

I used to load a Foden with ingots and you could hear it coming down the bypass from 2 miles away it used to scream.
