Thanks for all the thoughts, guys. As most of what I make these days down at my local men's shed is relatively lightweight and non-critical in terms of any loading, I'll give the Elga rods a go. For my own home stock, most likely Bohler or Oerlikon will be the choice.

I need to replenish my stock of 2.5 mm 6013 rods down at my local men's shed. Any recommendations for online suppliers? I was using Weldequip but they are no more since my last purchase. Also, what make of rods do our stick welders here favour?

Up here we order our rods and what type through a Agri workshop.

Ive been meaning to do some more stick and try thinner stuff, so want some 1.6mm rods, but they appear expensive or hard to find.
Ordered these should be here next week. Oerlikon Overcord's. 100 is about 0.7kg, so not great value.

Anyone used them, any good?

I bought a batch of them a couple of weeks before Christmas from that seller - sent them back. They were supplied in a scruffy bag with a torn off label and looked like they’d been kicked around the warehouse floor for a while. No brand or markings on the rods of any sort (I’ve got a few boxes of larger diameter oerlikon around the place and the rods are all branded). And they were tiny - only about 150mm ish long rather than std 350mm.

The seller is certainly a very legit welding supplier in Sheffield but I had no confidence in these so just returned them for a refund.

Thanks for the warning, I have used WECS before but as you say, they will be going back if they are bad.

Any other suppliers? might have to see what the local BOC has, cant see any 1.6 on their site.

I've never had a problem with Rapid welding...

You could also give Tom a ring at Welding Supplies Direct, I don't know what they keep in stock.

Just looking at the Oerlikon rods people talk about Fincord or Overcord, but it seems like each of those comes in different varieties. So for example when people recommend "Fincord" as the best/easiest rod for a beginner, does than mean just "Fincord" and not "Fincord M" or "Fincord DB"?

I'd hate to find I'd bought the wrong sort of expensive rods.

Personally I prefer E6013 "Fincord M" of all diameters over other makes/types of E6013 rods.

E7018 rods are a different matter, various makes work for me.

PS. Fincord M work nicely on Buzz Box Welders with 50 ocv, were some other rods can be a real pain....

Tbh I just get whatever are the cheapest packs/boxes on evilbay irrespective of "make".
2.5 6013 rods are all I use these days and none of the things I'm doing are safety critical or need to be tested, I've always managed to make very satisfactory welds that are 100% fit for purpose using this type of cheap rod.
I honestly can't see the point of splashing lots of cash on posh rods like Fincord or whatever.. Unless you really want to of course !

I just mention them because various suppliers are offering them in small packs, low risk to just try a few of a given size. Assuming their not junk.
