Why not use a 2.5mm and put more emphasis of the heat onto the existing weld directly below the crack, the weld puddle will flow into and over the crack but not melt through and blow holes
I would also be inclined to run a second and possibly third bead building the weld up well above the crack
Also, is it a truck mount cherry picker?

I came across some weird weird things the other day, I can only presume the Germans or Swiss guys from Hitatchi Zozen Inova brought them over.
Bohler EV 50 7018-1. 3.2mm diameter. But the weird part. They were 200ish mm long!!!!
I’m guessing they’re special order or something for boiler work.

We used to get strange requests...one was for unusual length rods because the user had loads of welds that were all the same length (short)....less than a full rod but more than half so they either accepted stop/starts or threw away a lot of big stub ends.......they wanted enough so we did it
